Gaming Sending messages to friends

When I go to the area where you add FCs, it says, "Registering friends allows you to see their online status, You can also exchange short messages." How do you send messages? I can't see any option to do this.

Sometimes, randomly, my 3DS displays 'Streetpass' on the top left corner of the bottom screen.
Does this mean that it's found someone?
I'm asking because when I go to Notifications, it says 'Streetpass notifications - 0'

Naw, that just means streetpass is activated.

You'll know you got a hit when there's a green circle in your notification area.

That's just telling you StreetPass is on.
Also, if you did exchange data via StreetPass, the LED would go green and you'd have a notification.

I'm not picking all that many up, either. But I DID discover an awesome way to do so.
Enter a video game store and pass by the store's 3DS and leave.

The thing is, it does show it.
It has a green rectangular background as well.

He's saying it's on your top screen, in the upper left corner. Your bottom screen has icons for brightness, friends, and notifications. If you connect to an internet source, it will show a blue box with the word Internet, instead of streetpass, and if you turn the wifi switch off, it should say Disabled. This is normal, but sadly it doesn't mean you recieved a streetpass, and I know how hard it can be to get one. Trust me, when you get a streetpass, you'll know.

This is always the case! The representatives get TOLD nothing about Nintendo's plans, which isn't really that great for the consumers asking questions. Nothing told = Nothing to pass on. I reckon at least give them a crash course on the bare basics of shit that needs knowing, that way they can be of some help rather than making the representatives look stupid when asked technical questions. Sometimes I hate Nintendo.
