There are ways to fix semibricks by telling the Wii it is getting a new Update that may not really be new. I have done this on 2 Wiis and it works 100% fixed semibrick cause by Mario Kart (PAL) on NTSC. If you go to Wiidev and run title Lister you will notice that the System Menue all have different numbers per region with some coding you can Trucha a disc and resotre the semibtick. I will leave you with this hint you need a WAD to Replace the System Menu to the proper Region

I've considered that, but what version can you change it to which is higher than the version on Mario Kart Wii - that has the highest WiiSystemMenu version on disc in any case. Feel free to elaborate on how this is done - this is a "hacking" forum after all, and sharing breakthroughs is nice

. I would hope that the way this works would still allow for an update to 3.2 afterwards, so theres nothing of trucha left over on the wii (as an IOS37 update could cause major problems then :S).

hmmm... i suppose there is a certain amount of risk involved, i'm unsure of what i'm saying is correct, but let's say patch the 3.1v3 to 3.1v4, and pray that nintendo does an firmware update jumping to 3.2.

then, if the next firmware is indeed 3.1v4, we would have to do another patch to force the update. or if the next firmware includes some checks which denies firmware upgrade from 3.1v4, we wouldn't be able to obtain future firmware updates, or worse still, brick it?

just some random thoughts of mine, wad u guys think?

A game will only fix a Simibrick if it has a higher firmware than the one you made a simibrick with.

Example: You simibricked your PAL wii with Super Smash Bros Brawl becourse it has 3.2U and your Wii was 3.1E.
Then you would need 3.3U becourse every update. Updates the Wii settings menu to display the correct version number (Yea i know pretty stupid infact). Then it deletes the old version of the settings menu and then you cannot access it.

I would not be so scared about that. Nintendo has allready proved they dont really care about these things.

it is all about the systemmenu wad and update.inf. The person who helped me with it asked to keep it between us for now and out of respect for him I will do that. Hex Editors are your best friend and if it thinks something is new then let it think it.

oh, i forgot, dCiSo, thank you so much for ur input, i'm just wondering, if u left ur wii on after u've unbricked the consoles screwed by mario kart, would it still update the firmware to 3.2?

My Wii is at 3.2U after fixing the Semibrick and Homebrew Chan and everything still loads.

Im really glad to hear that, Ill try it immediately - I was bricked with ver257, so I should be safe trucha-ing into a v258 version. Im glad that worked, it was something I was planning to try for a while but I was too scared of the repurcussions lol. Thanks dciso.

So did you try this ?? Did you have any success ?? Thanks !

By the way, I found this tool which seems useful for some of us who semi-bricked their wii :

http://wum.talevas.com/

from the website :

QUOTECan WUM unbrick my "settings access" semi bricked Wii ?
YES, WUM can help you to fix this type of semi brick !!!
Most of the time, you don't really know your actual firmware version, and cannot find it because your parameters page is inaccessible.
So just configure your settings with the right Wii region and uncheck the "Expert Mode" (very important).
Now download the latest firmware update by selecting it in the "Update to download" list and press "Download" button. Then take any iso, open it with WUM, scan it and perform a "Replace" with the update just downloaded.
Right now you should have an iso with the latest firmware update for your wii. You can insert it in your Wii and do the game update when loading.
If no update has been asked, it is because your Wii contain a newer firmware... You just have to wait for a new game with a new update inside. But no need to download it, just use WUM to the above procedure one or tow weeks after the game release, WUM will know the update!

I haven't had a chance to try this yet, as I'm still unsure on the details - the way dciso described it sounded like it involved editing both update.inf and changing systemmenu wad files, so Im unsure what method to use exactly. I don't want to brick my Wii if I get it wrong O.o.

OK, simply changing the _update.inf file on (in my case) Mario Kart Wii JAP to list ver258 under the WiiSystemMenu v256 wad didn't prompt an update (I was bricked with ver257 (SSBB-US)). The only other option I can think of to do this is to open an ISO containing the highest SystemMenu version - judging from the Wii Update Manager website this could be any of Wii Chess (apparently), or any other recent PAL game such as MK Wii PAL. When you have this open, having extracted the JAP update wad from (perhaps) MK Wii JAP simply replace the WiiSystemMenu wad listed on the iso with the JAP version. I'd imagine this would prompt an update, though note this (obviously) will not work with people bricked by the latest games. Another alternative could be to use Wii Update Manager to dump the Mario Kart Wii JAP update and replace the Mario Kart EU update with that through WUM, though I am not sure as to the exact workings of how the update is replaced.

If anyone else has ideas let me know! I'm out of DVD-Rs atm, so if someone with a chip that actually plays RWs wants to try some of these suggestions and let us know whether it prompts an update, that could be really useful ^^.

As far as I know, the only way to fix semi-bricks is to run a disc that has a newer version firmware from your own region.

So if you have a US NTSC console, and you've incorrectly updated to 3.2E firmware for example, then you'd need a disc that contains a 3.3U update.

Edit: FWIW, if you've received the semi-brick from Mario Kart, try running Okami. Can't guarantee anything, but it wanted to run an update on my 3.2E PAL console.

Thanks Piepants, worked awesome for me. I was semi-bricked from PAL Custom GH3 on my NTSC-U system (stupidly forgot to brickblock and region-fii), and had the updates from SMG and SSBB already before bricking. Okami - NTSC - ZRY worked perfectly and updated to 3.1U, then I configured my internet settings for the first time, and got online and took another update (3.2U?). Everything is fine now - and I stopped being lazy and ran my wiikey config disk and turned DEV Mode and Block Updates on too to save me from myself. Thanks again!

Hey crpngdth2001,

Did you use an orginal Okami NTSC-U to fix it or a backup/download iso to fix it? I download one from internet but no update at all. It allows me to play the Okami game but no update though. Just curious the one that I download might not contain any update though. Thanks.

Like someone else who posted stated, I have a NTSC-J Wii semi-bricked by Okami(U). Any means of restoring my firmware to a Japanese firmware, so I can then do the web update, would be a godsend.

I have one question but no one answered me.
I bricked my Jap Wii 3.1J with SSBB U, and I don't know what firmware of my Wii now is.
Someone please show me the exact way to fix my Wii, to unbrick it.
Is there any Jap game out there has a newest firmware for my Wii to be unbricked?

The exact same thing happened to me and now I'm clueless on how to unbrick my Wii. Kinda sad as I just bought it in China recently and never got to experience any of its online features.
