i am selling my ipod 3g on craigslist and the buyer asked if i still have it and sent this message

Hello dear seller, thanks for the response, i dont mean to bother you
but i really have interest in this item for my cousin abroad. It will
be his pleasure as one of the best ever birthday gift i have bought
him as he is addicted to kind of it before he left for state. So i
have to let you know i will not be able to make in person as i am very
busy with some papers work at work since days and haven't return to
back to state, i have decide to add additional fund of150USD as the
shipping cost via USPS to the mover that will be dropping the item at
his door step. So i will be sending all the money to you via paypal as
the best way i can pay you since we cant meet before the payment is to
be maid. So i will like you to kindly get back to me with your paypal
email id so that i can put the fund through, and if you haven't got it
yet, you can just log on to www.paypal.com for the account and get
back to me with your paypal account so that i can put the fund
through. Asap

should i give him my paypal name and can he do anything to my paypal if i do? im just little worried i need some help clearing this up.

hypothetically if i do send him my paypal can he do anything? i use my familys paypal for selling(they still give me my money) i think ill make a paypal of my own and see where that gets me

You would have to give him usually your paypal linked email address so that he could send you money.

To be honest, I wouldn't sell anything to someone that lives or wants an item shipped outside the country you live. There is just way to many things that can go wrong. Customs is a MAJOR problem in which most stuff gets stolen or lost or just sits on a shelf at customs for months and then gets mailed back to you.

If that where to happen I think you are beginning to see the issues you would have. Buyer would end up contacting paypal and filling a dispute that wasn't even your fault but instead the shipping services or customs in your country or theirs. The end result, you could end up losing your item and having to reimburse the buyer the amount paid and maybe even the shipping charges.

I sent 1 item to Germany from the USA and this is what happened to me with a customs agent in Germany most likely stealing the item so I don't ship international no more. The horror story's on the internet are insane.

well i made a personal pay-pal for this i'm not using my family's pay-pal(i still get my money back when i use my family's pay-pal)

Giving the paypal name would just enable him to pay and that's It but that might be enough to trap you. If I where you I would just ignore It, looks very risky to me.

1. He puts money in your account, you send item
2. He gets item, files a dispute with Paypal, they take money from you and give it back to him.

I think that's how that scam works.

Doesn't Craigslist say to avoid scams by dealing locally?

Unless somebody can meet you with cash in hand at a public place (and even then you need to verify they're not paying you with counterfeit money), don't do the deal.

I've never had a bad experience with Craigslist as a buyer, but I hear of people having trouble selling stuff on there all the time. Most everybody I've bought from has told me about having multiple buyers flake and shit like that

It's most likely fake. I've had something similar before. I ended up getting a fake paypal email saying I was paid, when I really wasn't. Don't do it.

Look--it's a scam. Get over yourself. Nobody 'abroad' is going to pay you an extra $150 for your old iPod. If you respond to that you deserve to get ripped off.
