Hacking Self Test Failed

Hi all, I brand new to DS hacking and I have recently purchased a Cyclo DS Evolution Flashcard. I tried the card for the first time today and kept getting a "Self test failed" error message when trying to boot the card. I have tried to run a number of firmware updates form 1.1 to 1.51 (including 1.22 updated) but the DS-Lite reboots itself before the firmware update is applied.
Do you guys thimk the card is defective or is there something I can do to fix this???

Most Cyclo users I know recommend the Panasonic SD Formatter over using Windows' formatting.
