I have a multi-boot PC system with the following Operating Systems installed: Windows XP, 7, 8.1, 10 & 11, which I use for playing retro and also newer games. Unfortunately, my main GPU, a Gigabyte RTX 2070, has started overheating, reaching temps above 108 oC.
My second GPU is an MSI GTX 770 that was working fine and is used mainly for XP, Win 7 & 8.1, & is disabled under Windows 10,11 due to a lack of Nvidia drivers.
I've had to replace the RTX 2070 GPU with an RTX 4070 Ti, and now under Windows 7, my GTX 770 will no longer work properly, even though it appears as normal in the Device Manager, whereas the RTX 4070 Ti is displayed as a Standard Display Adapter. I have disabled the RTX 4070 Ti, and rebooted, but my GTX 770 will still not work as intended. It worked perfectly with the RTX 2070 installed.
Even though the RTX 4070 Ti is disabled in Device Manager, Windows 7 insists on still using it as the main GPU and completely overrides the GTX 770, which is no longer recognised or usable, even though it appears perfectly fine in the Device Manager. This has got me stumped.
I removed the RTX 4070 GPU, and the GTX 770 started working again. I put the RTX 4070 back in, and I end up with the same problem no matter what I do. I tried reinstalling Nvidia drivers for the GTX 770, but it still won't work. I have no such problems with Windows XP and Windows 8.1. Once the RTX 4070 Ti is disabled in Device Manager, the GTX 770 works perfectly and is recognised. For some unknown reason, Windows 7 refuses to play nicely once the RTX 4070 Ti is installed, regardless of whether it is enabled or disabled.
I would appreciate any help solving this dilemma. Thanks!
