First off - I'm new to Wii U/Wii in general and Homebrewing in particular so probably a mistake on my end.

The real question to begin with:
Am I supposed to be able to have my Wii games on the "USB" partition when using SDUSB and be able to browse it using USB Loader GX?

Long explanation:
I have Aroma installed, ISFShax and SDUSB working with two partitions, and injected games installed to "USB" can launch from the main menu (Wii U Menu).
So it seems to work for the most part. One thing that doesn't work however are my Logitech Microphones. They do work in Sing Party, so faulty mics are ruled out.

I thought I'd try USB Loader GX to see if I could change cIOS and get them working, found some post about that maybe working, but ran into an issue:

When launching it for the first time it tried to find my USB and failed with "Error: USB Device not initialized.".
A 'wbfs' folder on the FAT32 partition ("SD") works and I can see those games.
Toggling back to SD mode again and I can see my games, toggling off again - same error.

Is this not possible, or is there an error on my part? :)

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I tried with an SSD (FAT32 formatted) connected to the back and it was found by ULGX, so it does recognize USB just not my other partition on my SD card .. could it be because it is formatted by the Wii U in it's proprietary format?

I guess it doesn't really matter though since the issue with the mics seems to be either with ULGX or cIOS or something else. I tried using the SSD, no mic same as with my SD, but then I inserted my We Sing disk into the drive and the mic works. So either it's my disk dump or something else... something for another thread though I suppose.

Ah, so you're using Wii VC with USB storage?
Yeah, that causes problems, because the Wii U's emulation layer takes control of the USB ports to present the Virtual Console game to the Wii VC IOS as if it were a disc in the drive. That emulation layer also blocks IOS reloads whilst reporting them as successful to the software.

I thought launching it by going through the "Wii" icon would make it launch into "Wii mode" (vWii?) making it more or less the same as a regular Wii, and injecting stuff was VC?
Also thought ISFShax went in before anything else to make it work?
Still new to all this, things get confusing. 😊

So doing Wii icon > Homebrew Channel > USB Launcher GX is not gonna work with sdusb/two partitions or my USB mics?
It does see storage if I plug it in later on.

Is there a way that would work?

Main thing really are the USB mics/other peripherals, the games I can have on the SD/FAT32 partition and the rest on the WiiU partition since it works for everything else.

SDUSB makes the Wii U thinks the other partition on the SD Card as a USB device so that it's able to install games to the other partition as the Wii U never had any support for installing games to the SD Card. USB Loader or any other Wii app/homebrew can never see this partition because it's in a special encrypted Wii U only format so any games or things installed to it can never been seen. Also the Wii never had any official support for USB storage.

To use USB Loader GX on games on your SD Card, you just need to enable SD card mode and place wbfs into the wbfs folder. Any USB stuff you see relates to the real USB connected to the Wii (U) like the SSD you mentioned.

Looking back I now understand why I've seen posts/guides saying that I need two "drives"/partitions: one for Wii U and one for Wii. 🤦‍♂
I thought the Wii also had that proprietary format, but Wii/vWii reads FAT32 then? TIL.

Thanks!

Now to see if I can solve the USB peripheral problem somehow. Asked on Discord and someone said it probably is that way and I need the disk for all microphone games, but that's a discussion for my other thread. 🙃
