This is an easy answer: no. All sorts of hacking involves getting code from your SD card to run*, so without that, there is nothing you can do. Sorry. :(

*IIRC, there is a mocha build that redirects all reads from SD to USB, but to set that up and to start (each time) you'll - again - need to have stuff on your SD card.

You could always find someone to solder a new connector on if the issue is physical.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ori...r-Wii-U-Console-SD-Card-Slot/32644058582.html

You can order one and do the soldering yourself or get someone with tools and skills to do it for you. It's not actually that hard with the correct tools and equipment.

Ps. You can send it to Nintendo for repair, just make sure you remove any hax from the system before you send it in.

It would very much be possible to run certain homebrew without an SD card. In fact, some homebrew has already been set up for this.

However, HBL itself (I don't think) is one of these yet. And even still, HBL checks your SD card for homebrew, so that's out of the question.

And also, all the tools here require configuration files and/or store data on the SD card, so there's no point really.

I wonder if a USB micro sd card reader would work.
Not at all as it doesn't have a driver in the OS for this situation, plus when you tell the console to read from SD Card, it's not going to send those requests to the USB slot, but to the SD card slot

if u want a funny story, I once, while very drunk, put the sd card in the disc slot. I couldn't find the sd card all day the following day until I thought that I might've done that. to get it out, I just ejected the disc that was inside and it flew out. :P

That still acts like a flash drive...
Do you know anything??
And to the OP:
Have you've done anything to your Wii U like put a CFW on it?
If not, I'm sure you can take it to Nintendo and say it randomly stopped working and you've tried many SD cards.

Even then, he can just say he bought it second hand, but OP, if you don't trust yourself soldering, send it in for repairs, or buy a new one if.
But as long as you look closely, it's simple, could practice on small devices like USB drives, unsolder, resolder. etc.

Yeah, send it in for repairs and say it's a secondhand console. I sent my Wii U in for repairs since my disk slot stopped working and I told them it was a secondhand console. They took the bait, and I got extra lucky for them giving me free shipping.

wii u hacks would be harder to find. the virtual wii on the other...afaik, there's no way to make it look like stock. they probably get so many units that they don't bother checking them anyway, so u should be good.

Some check for CBHC or Haxchi traces, some don't.

Youll need soldering skills.
OR take it apart and take only the wiiu motherboard to a electronic repair shop, like a pc/phone repair shop and ask if they replace the sd card slot for $

This is probably your best path unless you have friends who are good with soldering, or if you pursue a future in soldering and electronics repair (like I am) where you sink in the money and time.
Based on what I've repaired and done, it's totally worth the time and money
