Can I just replace the touch screen portion of the lower screen? How can I tell if the damage went through the touch screen to the lower screen?

You can buy replacement touch screens for the DSi for roughly 20 dollars, it should be simple and easy to replace. Just google around and watch tutorial videos on youtube. Also you will need a tri-wing screwdriver, and thoes can be had for as little as 2 dollars.

I can get the screen for ~10, the touch screen for ~3.

Was wondering if I can just get the touch screen, not both of them.

I don't think DSi's use triwing, not sure though.

I know DSLs and Wiis do for sure.

But my DSi doesn't seem to sport any triwing outside.

Um, do you mean the top screen to the touch screen? The touch screen IS the lower screen.

Technically the touch screen/digitizer. Yep. The screen ontop of the lower screen.
