Do you have CFW installed? If so, check out BootNTR: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-bootntr-selector.432911/

Use FBI or some other CIA installer to install it to your system, and run it before starting your game. Then you should be able to hit X+Y simultaneously to open a menu, where you can use the save state features. Note that these are considered to be experimental at the moment.

It's ok, I think a lot of people have installed it while following different guides, but never understood what it was for.

Wait actually when you are loading the save what must you do? Do you have to close software or be on home menu

Hmm, it keeps crashing. I'm playing Kirby Robobot and I saved in one spot as State 1, go back to home menu and load it, what's supposed to happen

You go home, create save state, wait for it to finish, then when you want to restore that state you go back home, restore it and again wait for it to finish. Iirc it takes a bit to restore and it will tell you when it finishes. Though even still it's very prone to crashing, but afaik it's currently the only way to do save states.
