What would be the cleanest way to get a Wii U to use and accept a new Miiverse server?

The cleanest would be disable ssl for miiverse services (so dns redirect works), but that would need a somebody to develop a patch, and there are more dangerous methods like replacing the certificate with the one provided by the server, but this can brick your console if done wrong.

As it appears to be down at the moment, I want to know something. Does it have color? That's one thing I always missed in Miiverse.

Do you mean colors in drawings? Yes, in fact we just added support for the whole RGB color spectrum.
