Hacking Save format question

So I'm waiting for my flashcart to get here, and in the meantime, I'm playing games on my PC using DeSmuME. I noticed that the save files it creates are .dsv, and it seems the default format for carts is .sav, am I out of luck when my cart gets here if I want to transfer the saves?
