People don't print documents for fun. They print them because they really need them. Examples of such documents would be reports. If people don't need them, they won't print them.

I don't understand this WWF format because, yes, it stops people from printing documents, but if people REALLY need that document, they would still print it. If they do not need it, they won't print it obviously. This can be done with other document format such as pdf and doc. What's more, they provide the PRINT button, which is an added bonus unlike this WWF format.

To conclude, people won't use this thing, because they can stop printing their documents on other document processor as well. The deciding factor lies in whether they want it of not.

Pfft, converters? You guys have got this all wrong.
The solution is as simple as making a program that will happily print a .wwf file, just like DVD players that ignore region restrictions.

Anyway this is actually a terrible idea, many people require the ability to print files for research and education.

What makes them think this will actually work?
Just because someone makes a new format doesn't mean anyones gonna use it ....even if its better than what we have currently....FLAC is a good example of that...

Actually, why the hell not? Everyone keeps saying "its stupid, convert it etc etc"

But it doesnt take much effort to make something unprintable and if you save 1 tree with it, its 1 tree ... just sayin

Meh. I think it has a purpose.

In a work environment.

Where your manager / boss prints off every little thing that you send him.

Thusly eliminating the point of email.

If you are capable of going paperless anyway, you can do so without weird new formats. I use a computer terminal instead of paper whereever I can, despite all my formats being printable.

I have to agree.

QUOTE(Oveneise @ Dec 11 2010, 01:01 AM) One of the stupidest ideas i've ever heard. Absolutely no point. Maybe ".WFF" stands for "We Will Fail"?
Pointing out irony.

Just...use a .pdf? I mean, it's not like you have to print those.

Once they're printed they stop becoming a .pdf anyway, what with it being on paper and all.

But these won't even print on 100% recycled paper?

The folks at the World Wildlife Fund have created a new file format known as .WWF. It is basically a PDF file-based format the does not allow you to print onto paper. There is a video link to the 'trailer' from World Wildlife Fund below. The .WWF file format is currently only available on Mac, but will be ported to Windows shortly.[/p]
Why am I not surprised that this kind of thing started on a Mac?

What they meant to say is don't use .wwf, save a baby from Zetta's rage
