It will with future flashcards. Maybe not all of them, but if this becomes more common...

The SD standard only goes up to 2GB. Anything bigger than that is either SDHC, or non-compliant.

do you mean microsd standar limit? I have a 4gb sd(not sdhc) card and it works OK

Does it work in flashcards? They are reported to have some problems with it... 1 GB seems to be the perfect size.

But the standard allows 4 GB AFAIK. It's the maximum.

I don't know, when i used sc sd i had a 1gb memory, now I use microsd on my flashcarts, the 4gb sd is for the gp2x and works fine, as it should
