Hacking Safe to play DVD's on Wii?

I've been hearing from people that playing DVDs on the Wii can screw up the laser. Since it was not ment to play DVDs in the first place. What do you guys think?

The system isn't licensed to play DVDs, and Nintendo doesn't support or approve it.

And the Wii WAS made for DVD Playback. Nintendo took it out because They had to have all these licences to have DVD support. Instead they took it out.

I didn't say the hardware itself wasn't designed for DVD playback. I said it isn't licensed to do so, and Nintendo doesn't support or approve their use.

how hard would it be to get a licence, and i bet theres gona be some law suit about when the do make it legal to play DVDs, like "video playback on a white box" or something stupid like that lol

I believe Nintendo would have to submit the system for certification, and then pay a fee for every unit sold.
