Its impossible for ps3 analog to display 1080p, its just upscaling, it looks blurrier than hdmi.

I just hooked up a component cable (that I had my PS2 on) to my PS3 and it does allow 1080p

and here is my 360 also on component at 1080p

It has been confirmed, but only for Blu-Rays. Games will still be playable in HD with component. It seems it has something to do to avoid copy of HD content.

What a bunch of crap. So in order to play Blu-Ray I would have to buy a new TV on top of PS3. I don't even on an HDTV. Forget this, my aunt and uncle have a Blu-Ray player and we don't have any HDTV's (My cousin got a huge one for free that he plays games on, and I'm not talking about a flat panel one). Before anyone asks, no I don't hate my eyes, I just don't have the money for a new TV and my old one works perfectly fine, sure I would love a new TV, but it's just not necessary (I would love a flat panel one as it wouldn't take up as much room). We don't have any channels that require HD and I almost never watch TV outside of two or three shows, even then I try to download them and watch them later.

If you don't own a HDTV this doesn't affect you. You can still watch your Blu-Rays in SD.

I don't think this is too bad. It was nice not having to buy component cables for the PS3 because I could just plug in a spare HDMI cable. It'll suck for people with the old huge HD TVs w/out hdmi though.

Well, HDMI has been the industry standard for high definition video for a while now. Anyone that's really into HD should have already invested in a television set with HDMI compatibility. Component cables are more of a thing of the past now. That's just my take.

Well any PS3 owner that doesn't own a HD display with HDMI input is really missing out. Sure component cables still support HD gameplay, but HDMI cables are so much more convenient to handle
