Seiko told me there is a problem with the DB update utility. He is trying to get a fix from Hank.

Not resolved, but worked around.

19 games were added, working on more now.

Last update was 3 weeks ago. I realize that this product is free now, but I actually purchased this product when it wasn't free. I know that Hank is busy, but that was why he asked for help updating the database. This isn't working out so well. We are now behind by 135 titles.

Hank, if you're reading this, I volunteer my services to perform weekly database updates. I'll just need the access and very little of your time to learn the ropes.

In case things stay this way, can anybody recommend a replacement ROM manager with timely updates that runs on Mac OS X?

I'll be honest I know of no other rom mangers that work on OSX but the that matter it seems none of the PC alternatives are worth using either (DSFCC has the GUI from hell). Good luck!

DB updated until 4106 but still:

3025 - Tokutei! Metabo Juku (J) [Debu]
  • size: 62.694 kB / CRC: 41B40D7D is underdumped, but seen as clean by Rominator.
  • size: 62.694 kB / CRC: 3C473341 is underdumped and correctly seen as unclean by Rominator
  • size: 65.536 kB / CRC: 5F077EC4 is proper, but seen als unclean by Rominator
  • size: 65.536 kB / CRC: 4FE5E22C [unknown to me if proper], seen as unclean by Rominator
DSFCC, DS-Rom Organizer, NDSCRC Renamer, RoFage, RToolDS etc. been there, done that, but Rominator was always a good Rom Manager.

Thanks for that Hank

If you have a problem with the Database updates, please contact me directly as mentioned in the first post. For simplicity, I will repost it for you -- mr[dot]seiko[at]gmail[dot]com -- Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any issues with the database. Sometimes Life and computer issues can put up walls that don't allow us to get done what we want to get done.

We are actually only behind about 40-50 releases as the DSI and DSI Enhanced releases are ignored on this listing.

*******NOTICE*******

The Scene Release that we were mirroring has Recently modified their release list.

They have adjusted to include the DSI Enhanced games in this Release list.

This has been the source of some of the delays, and I am working to get this resolved ASAP.

Thanks for updating 3025, Mr.Seiko

About that 'problem' of scene numbering...

The SQL database is something like this:
ds (id Text, header Text, code Text, number Text, name Text, country Text, genre Text, publisher Text, releaseGroup Text, trimsize text, crc32 text, language Text, altGenre Text, wifi Text, metacritic text);

Isn't it an option to number with more than 4 numeric characters, or even alpha-chars? Each entry is already unique by rowID and [id Text]. That way you could even make entries for unnumbered (xxxx), iQue and DSi-enhanced ROM releases. (The only thing that is not an option is the DSiWare 'releases' as those are not ROM's, but .BIN/.LST....). 1 alpha-field followed by number gives you 26 categories (xxxx,iQue,DSI-only,DSiEnhanced etc) with 999 releases (if the field length doesn't change from 4 chars).

Or even simpler: why not follow http://gbatemp.net/newgon/ instead of other websites?

So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
