Hey peeples!
So, I only got into playing and enjoying rom hacks a few years back. I honestly didn't even know, what they really were, or how you could 'use' one.
Since then, I have played many great hacks for a lot of different games and I am still amazed, every single time, what people are able to do with those games.
One of my favorite oldie games always was Crystal Mines. I owned it, back in the day, on the Atari Lynx. I even loved Boulder Dash, on the C64, which can be viewed as kind of a precursor to Crystal Mines.
So, when I found out, that there is a Version of Crystal Mines for the NDS, I was so happy and immediately played it... only to find out, that those guys, porting the game, made a critical error in its design.
Tbh, I found this out, only thanks to a comment, under a YT Video, but anyway, here it goes:
On the DS Version of Crystal Mines, all is well, up until you reach lvl 09 (called: 'Dan's Deadly Maze').
On the original version of the game, the time limit in this level is supposed to be 300 seconds, making it 5 Minutes, in total.
But on the NDS version, you only have 30 seconds of time! - Which is not enough, to finish the level. Like that one dude, in the comments said: it must have been a porting error or so. One of the programmers must have entered the wrong number for the timer, or so. Instead of '300' (as in seconds), they put in '30'.
This is like a brick wall, in which you drive into, after only a hand full of levels and it's impossible to progress any further.
I, myself, have no clue, if this would be something easy or hard, to 'fix', with a rom hack. But it would make one of the classics, on the NDS playable again.
Just for clarification: I don't know why, but in the NDS Version, they shoved in a new level. Whereas in the Lynx version, level 08 is the one, called 'Dan's deadly Maze', in the NDS version, it is level 09.
Lynx Version (named Crystal Mines 2)
LVL 01: Down in the dirt
LVL 02: Logan's Run
LVL 03: Blocks and Bombs
LVL 04: Wren's Nest
LVL 05: Out with a bang
LVL 06: Tanya's Tangram
LVL 07: Monster Go Boom
LVL 08: Dan's Deadly Maze
etc.
