Hacking RockBand with GH instruments?

I understand that, but would you always hit the cymbal even when the pad is the same color?

Would it be possible to play the game very well, then go to an exact setup of real drums and be able to play the same song and have it sound the same as in the game?

Thats all I'm wondering, like when are you supposed to hit the cymbals or when to hit the pads.

I know the guitars teach you absolutely nothing on how to play a real guitar but the drums seem like real drums.

Yes.

Pretty close

Hit the cymbals when it sound like it's a cymbal. So if you're playing a simple beat (with the Hi-Hat, Snare and Bass Drum for example), Play the Yellow Cymbal. But if it's a drum solo on the toms, don't use the Cymbals in it (unless It sounds like there's cymbals at a part

). So really, you have to use your ear. Either way, It will sound the same in the game though.

Sorry, I'm not a very good explainer

Yes, I understand everything about how the cymbals use the same color pads and that it will all sound the same in the game...

But I want it to sound the same in real life with a real set of drums. Is that even possible? How would I know which cymbal/hi-hat to hit when I hear that similar sound?

You're not gonna be able to make it sound like a real set of drums without software/hardware doing velicity sensing and without the hi-hat peddle. They've done very good with what they have to work with at this point though. Wii Music though being more clunky using the wii controllers and balance board does a better job of providing freestyle play. What wii music's freestyle mode needs though is that Wii Controller addon thing (dont remember the name of it offhand) that gives positional sensing abilities. Would be much better to determine device hit by position rather than hitting buttons to select cymbols/tom tom hits. Both freestyle methods RB2 and Wii Music have huge faults, the RB2 freestyle feels better and your really drumming, but it lacks versatility. The Wii Music is very versatile, includes hi-hat and bass with pressure sensitivity so it's great for keeping steady beats and sounding great, but it's so clunky to play runs and solos and you're not actually physically hitting drum pads. RB2 drum freestyle would be awesome if they allowed use of the balance board for bass/hi-hat open and close. I read somewhere that the madcatz cymbols were velocity sensitive. If this is true and the RB2 freestyle mode supports that function of them I'll be looking into getting RB2 drums.

So its cheaper to just by the full RockBand 1 kit, then just buy the game RockBand 2 alone without anything else right?

The official Rock band 2 drums are basically the same as the Rock Band 1 drums correct?

No it would be cheaper to buy the GH:WT set and buy the Rockband2 game.

I was just reading that RB2 will work with GH guitars... can anyone confirm this?

Also, is there a way to get RB1 to work with GH guitars? I have a Nyko (god I love that company, haha) guitar and it works with World Tour, Aerosmith, and III... just not with RB1... is there a hack, or did I just toss money down the garbage shoot?

the first thing is supposed to be true... and the next one... it was already asked and the answer was no... check http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=116315&hl=

you get more compatibility across the board by buying the WT instruments. By Buying WT you only lose out on rockband 1 - if you buy the RB instruments, they dont work on any of the three existing gh games.
