Gaming ridge racer 2 jap for psp problems

well i am playing the japanese version of ridge racer 2 on the psp, i have firmware 3.71 m33-4 and everytime i try to attempt to start a race the psp shuts off, sometimes i can get around this by starting another race and then attempting the previous race again but up till now as i've nearly completed the game when i even try to continue world tour mode the psp shuts off so i can't even play the main game anymore, i tried downloading a 100% complete save from gamefaqs.com and try loading that but that made no different, what the hell could it be?
