You may heard iconic tunes in other video games or outside of video games before experiencing them in the original (e.g. Zelda's Lullaby is from ALTTP, not OoT)

Care to share or recommend?

-I know the Castlevania theme from the Pro Evolution Soccer series. One could select it during replays and menus. And I knew parts of it from AVGN. I only recently played through some of the classic Castlevania games. Amazing music. No wonder they have so many tracks in Smash Ultimate.

-I played Smash 4 a lot and especially enjoyed the Xenoblade music. Finally having played the game made me appreciate the tracks even more. I guess for most people it was the other way around.

Same here. And I only played through the NES titles recently and felt the Melee Nostalgia.

I assume many players will experience reverse Nostalgia through the remix of Death Mountain (Zelda 1) in Smash Ultimate. I heard the original just weeks before the remix. I wonder why it had never been re-used in other Zelda titles.

That's when you fight Volvagia right? Gosh I played that game like 1000x and I am instantly sent back to that little boss room with a the megaton hammer.

edit: wait I think not, haha that's embarrasing

All dungeons in Zelda 1 have the same music, but the last (large and difficult) dungeon have that theme. I think you fight multiple previous bosses in it but some could be avoided. I'm pretty sure the dragon re-appears in that dungeon as well.

Song outside a game or song older than a comparatively more prominent role?

I had played some version of pac man prior to hearing that but the intro song otherwise so famous was not one I knew.

Whether I heard them first there or not a lot of C64 era stuff also... borrowed from songs

There are a few others as well https://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10986

I somehow managed to skip Doom so missed their borrowings. https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Doom_music but it could have been a case for many as a lot of the tracks there are less well known offerings from the artists involved.

I can't say I knowingly heard a song and then went back and heard the "original"/inspiration in an earlier game some time after the fact. Even if I did then most I would probably consider continuations of a sort

Touhou is quite famous for reusing the same melody for the title screen, but almost nobody knows (and for a good reason) that an original song actually exist and dates back to the first game (the highly responsible to prayers), the problem is that is was never used inside the game at all, not even in the fifth game (mystic square) which music room contained all the previous games music including some unused songs, it was included in the album containing the soundtrack of the first game instead (which in turn also was the last album of the old games to be released).

My example is listening to various OcRemix tracks and finally getting around to playing Final Fantasy I and VI. Probably more, but those are the ones that spring to mind as FF music is rather iconic.
