Well, it's all that's really available for Wii U, unless you want to use the garbage Snes VC on Wii U lol.
GBA and genesis are all i've *succesfully* tried so far minus dosbox. I've gotten dosbox to boot the simpsons arcade game, so i'd say there's potential.
Maaan don't even get me started on nintendo's recent miserable excuses for emulation... lol

RetroArch gets Snes and NES right, I don't know what to suggest, short of rolling back to version 1.5.0 or 1.6.0. Until we can get to the bottom of the issues, not much can be done right now.

Can somebody share what set they are successfully running Altered Beast and also core?

I tried a few different sets on Mame 2003 core but the game seems weird and halts scrolling midway through the first level and I can't advance anymore.

Also has anyone successfully run Spiderman Arcade?

Thanks

Eh. Dems the breaks i suppose. Just happy this exists at all though. I remember wondering last year if we'd ever start getting the ball rolling on emulation and here we are now so. Nothin' wrong with waiting a 'lil longer.

genesis works perfectly fine, there's your altered beast. I'll see if spiderman arcade works at all, but i haven't gotten a single mame game to boot. What are the settings/method you use?

It doesn't matter at all, the keymapper is meant to do the opposite actually, it's supposed to emulate a keyboard with the gamepad
I think I'm missing HAVE_KEYMAPPER somewhere but I double checked already and I have no idea...

Hi Radius ,

in makefile for wiiu

GRIFFIN_BUILD = 0

so not sure if your DEFINES += ... -DHAVE_KEYMAPPER

is catch as it's in a
ifeq ($(GRIFFIN_BUILD), 1)

Finally got Altered Beast (set 8) to work flawlessly last night through FBA.
And as for MAME 2003 core I read somewhere that it only loads a specific rom set revision. Cannot remember off the top of my head, so I seem to be downloading the roms from different sources to experiment.

  • MAME 2000 = MAME 0.37b5
  • MAME 2003 = MAME 0.78
  • MAME 2009 = MAME 0.135u4

Do Romsets which work on MAME 2003 work on MAME 2009 as well?
Will I have compatibility issues if I ditch 2003 for 2009 entirely while having the same ROMs I used for MAME 2003?

I'm no MAME expert, but I think that using 2003 roms on 2009 core is a bad idea. MAME roms change frequently, sometimes roms end up being completely different files. I think that MAME is capable to automatically reject incorrect roms. Only roms unchanged in six years would work. Also, 2009 core is still pretty new and is missing features. Twin stick games are not playable yet as there's no inputs for them.

We lack any programmers who want to help out on the WiiU port of RetroArch, and it's already slim pickings in this scene as is. And when issues don't get reported back and people instead stick to old versions, that doesn't exactly help fix these issues either.

@rioray could you maybe help us please sort these issues out? There is nobody else really that we know of. We really need help on the RetroArch part for the WiiU, same goes for 3DS.

I didn't know it was that bad... What information do you need from the crash dumps? I can take pictures and/or record a video of me loading ROMs and cores back to back (in succession) to see what triggers the crashes. @QuarkTheAwesome do you have any insight as to what could be triggering these, and maybe around what version they began to occur? It's high time I go back to testing 1.6.7 and see what's going on. I'll also test each game/core for a set amount of time to see if the occurrence is random. I seem to recall Quark having some information.

Edit: I feel absolutely horrible for you guys, like, the lack of help, I have to do something to help.

Closing the rom before starting a new one seemed to have stooped crashes from me. Maybe its something with not closing it down properly?

Hmm, maybe it's not clearing the memory somehow, causing the Wii U to crash, I don't know. Either way, I'm helping, come hell or high water, we're getting to the bottom of this issue once and for all :P

What I'm going to try:

- Opening up ROMs and swapping cores in succession
- Loading ROMs from a playlist, then loading them from Load Content
- Loading ROMs back to back and not closing the content (then doing closing content)
- Things like that, and then documenting each crash dump with a snapshot.

Heck, even recording video wouldn't hurt, I don't have an Elgato, but I've a camera.

Edit: I forgot to mention that loading a game, then having it automatically choosing a core tends to be somewhat more stable then manually switching. I'll spam load that way too.

Sorry to hear that, very unfortunate. I'd be willing to kill a bunch of time sending in bug reports of everything i've found if that'll help. I just need to know how to do that.

I can help with that, or do something. Some things that help are writing down or taking snapshots of the error/code dump screen and then going to GitHub and report what you did to get to that state,
what cores you loaded and how many times you changed cores, etc.
