Hello Everyone,

So i have been playing PS1 games via Retroarch on Nintendo Switch the past year or so, but JUST started to notice some shading oddities in most games. For instance the persona 2 innocent sin screenshots attached showcase the issue perfectly. Seems like shading isn't handled very well by the core or current settings. I am using the PCSX ReARMed core and while this issue isn't that serious, I would like to know if there is a way to correct it.

Any advice?

If you're talking about the cross-pattern i.e. dithering, that's probably how the game is supposed to look on a real playstation. It was supposed to help 3D lighting look better with its limited pallette but some 2D games also had it turned on for inexplicable reasons. Also assumed you had a consumer CRT blurring everything together.

Fortunately you can turn off dithering in the core/quick options. And there's a notable performance boost with it off as well.

Id advise using beetle.
Pcsx rearmed doesn’t let you upscale the resolution.
Beetle lets you make things look 100% better, & you can overide the emulator cpu aswell.
Your other alternative is booting switchroot android.
Its the only way to run dynarec(fullspeed no overclock) ps1 emulation & has all the other bonuses.
