I just put the files to run the Retroarch emulator for the 3DS and everytime I try and start it in the Homebrew Launcher the bottom screen goes red and the program never starts.

I have the same problem I try to run the app FBI in the Homebrew Launcher even though all me other apps startup with no problem.

Check you did all these steps:

In fact - just download everything and add it to the root of ur sd card after being extracted

(do as the guide says)

I tried doing that and still just get a red screen. I have been wondering could it be because of the method I use to access the Homebrew Launcher which for me is using the freaky.bin exploit.

do you mean freakyforms?

If I were you - use frogminer

retroarch for 3DS is complete garbage, don't expect it to work no matter what you do
depending on what you want to emulate, if you install cfw by following 3ds.hacks.guide you might be able to run it in one of bubble2k16's emulators
also, FBI requires cfw, just using a form of *hax (like freakyhax) won't let it run

Now your just talking straight out bullshit..
When set-up right, the current version of retroarch runs just fine.

If you want that (almost) perfect emulation for a few systems, then yeah, just bubble's, nop's and a few other emulators will do just fine.
But how about PSX, Game&Watch, atari2600/7800, Magnavox Odyssey, NEOGEO, just to name a few.

Hate it or like it, for some systems you can't live without it.
But telling others it's not working no matter what you do is just plain stupid, and sounds like you havn't got a clue your talking about.

[...]
But how about PSX
does this look playable to you? (gameplay is at 1:38)

also, honestly very few people care about the other systems aside from maybe game & watch and neo geo, but with game & watch you might as well just play the gb(c/a) collections, which run fine without using retroarch, not to mention they're both pretty niche compared to stuff like the NES or SNES. I've only ever seen, like, 1 or 2 people care about atari 7800 stuff, never seen anyone want to run odyssey (you sure you didn't mean odyssey 2? although I've never seen that either)

If you're expecting a full fledged 3d PSX game to run smooth, then you may have the wrong expectations from the said core. PSX also has a nice 2d / 2.5d library of games availabe which do run at playable speeds.

Again, retroarch is running fine. Not every core is perfect but it offers currenly over 40 cores for 3ds. There's a lot available for those who do love some other niche platforms.

I do hope the OP gets his / her cfw setup right, and gets retroarch running.

that's from 2015, performance is a lot better

tbf you have to mess w a lot of settings

Silent Hill and resident evil 2 work and crash

but if u wanna play most games u'll need a PSP which sucks I'd love my 3ds to be able to play PSX
