Hacking Retroarch C64/Spectrum Tips?

Hi my friend has asked me to look into C64 and Spectrum games for him on his modded Vita. I grew up with NES/Atari 2600 stuff so never really touched these but i know they both had a keyboard.

I have tried loading a few games on each. C64 stuff just looked like it was stuck loading.

Spectrum loaded to the menu screen but i couldn't control anything. Is there a way to get button mapping instead of a keyboard?

Load core, then content, then look under controls or options menu, can’t remember which.
Better still, install Adrenaline and use the psp emulators from http://psp.akop.org/ for these as you’ll get a better experience as well as save state support for c64
