hmm...so it was the rtz files...i had been looking through all those .narcs...
so you found the pointers already too...
by the way, do you have to recompress the files if you decompress it to edit?
i don't have that much time today...but tomorrow i'll see if i can start dumping the script and stuff.

You should take up Knights in the Nightmare/World Destruction after Ys...*cough* but that's just a suggestion! xD

I really hope Darth takes this up, he's such a wonderful ROM hacker.

Umm...I'll consider it but I also want to help miruki translate a game (We don't actually know which one yet D:)
 
I'm not sure I want to start a new project right away... I'm working on an inserter, though. There are no pointers for the text since it's embedded, but there are pointers for where to go for each decision box choice, so those would need to be updated.

there's 2.4 megs of text compressed...one file grows to, like, 9 times its size after decompression...this thing is pretty damn huge...it'll take a heckuva load of time and a lot of translators to get through it. i don't even want to think about script insertions...
i don't really have much experience, but something kinda died inside me once i saw that these two wouldn't get an english release...i'll work my best and learn as much as i can...this thing is huge, but i wouldn't mind putting my back into it...at least this game is a bit less annoying than tales of the tempest...

i think knights in the nightmare will have an english release. everything else in the yggdra union series got one so why not this one?

That's kinda misleading. The actual text only makes up a fraction of each file, and there are a lot of repeated lines since there are slight differences for each protagonist.

the GBA versions of these series where awesome
and twin age was pretty OK so i hope someone translates it

true...but that was just a rough estimate for the size of all the script...i'll see if i can dump the script and get something more or less ready for translation...no promises, though, i dunno if romjuice is gonna work on my school computers...
 
ok...romjuice doesn't work anywhere but i just wrote my own script to get rid of all that junk. however, i don't quite know how google spreadsheets work...could anyone explain how to make an open spreadsheet?

oh yeah, just to clarify i intend to translate Summon Night 2, not 1, but 2. it's got prettier art, and i fel tthepeople that appeared in SN2 for GBA were funnier...if anyone has any protestations, voice them now...
 
Nope. A game translated is better than no game translated. Btw, I added this project in the Index of Translations, and appointed you as the author. Just let me know if you make any progress or release any patches so I can update my thread :]

paste the text into the spreadsheet, save it as something, go to the "Share" tab to the top right, click that, then check the "Anyone one can..." box and change "view" to "edit".
Then copy the link that appears just underneath.

Bingo.
 
ok...i'll try that sometime later tonight...school first...i'll add a link to the spreadsheet once i've posted a few things...
 
double post to bump...

here's the spreadsheet...i can't really tell whether some of this is junk or not...so...if you feel like translating it...filter out what looks like nonsense at your own discretion...
basically, my script just got rid of all the hexadecimal numbers in the windhex script dump, but there may still be some junk...if anyone knows of a better way to dump the text, feel free to tell me.

At the very least you could do something like this:
1. Search for 33017CF0C1
2. Determine length n of the line from the next byte
3. Convert the following n bytes to Shift-JIS
4. Repeat
