GoldSrc is not open source, but Xash3D is a compatible engine which is open source. A port is possible, although it's not an easy job and I personally am not going to work on it any time soon. But if someone really wants to they could do it.
And there is a sticky request thread which you could have used.
Edit: To make things clear, GoldSrc is a modified quake engine, and the HL quake mod runs on the 3ds but it crashes on some parts.

I don't get the point of all these threads requesting ports for PC games. Sure, it's pretty neat, but wouldn't you rather see something new and creative that's more fit for a handheld console?
Even if we were to port the PC game, it would never be as good as the original for PC and to be honest, I don't think anyone would even play through it.

Just play the games as they were meant to play, with keyboard and mouse on a PC.

Its the same rasin people dont wanna play games on old consoles. The convenience of the handheld.

There's mention of Quake/the Quake engine ported to 3DS. Iirc, Gold Source is a modified version of the Quake Engine. Don't know how useful that info might be; just throwin' it out there.

Bit late to the party, but it's much (to an extent) easier porting something than creating a new game altogether... and First person games such as HL are few and far between on 3DS. Anyway, I think there'd be a huge reception for such an amazing game if anybody who has experience is willing to try and get this on there.
+1 for support, just trying to show my interest!

Master feizz, I have looked up to you for the quake port as it got me to find out one of the greatest games. If xhash does work, will it be possible to import other games *team fortress classic* to it and not just half-life? Thanks

While I have not personally tested them, other games and mods should work as long as you port the game libraries over to the 3ds.

Also any release date plans? (Sorry just I love half life so much I tried to get the quake engine port maps to work. They didn't.)
