I just had an idea regarding 3ds friend codes.
Wouldn't it be great to have an app where users can enter their name, friend codes and all that, which then uploads it to a database where everyone can access it by searching by names in the app? This way people on gbatemp can find each other easily for trade-ups and shit.

I've done 2 pics to illustrate what I mean (don't question my paint skills ;-; )

This would be great. Also if we can add directly the people (like MH4U do), or notifications. I'll see what happend to this.

Very interesting. Could speed up the ACNL trading and more!

But it'd need a notification system as most games only work when you have added the other AND the other has added you.

I think it would be best to severely modify the friend list app, since it has that annoying af friend online notif. you could replce it with something more useful :P

The idea sounds good, but I think it would be better if this was a website.
(Unless it supports directly adding a user as a friend, and notifications when somebody has added you.)

If it were an app it would be easier to use and access, for an example, with the app open the user can click a button next to a FC entry to copy it to the 3DS keyboard clipboard, then press the home button and go to the friendslist to paste the code easily and add his friend.

That might mess up the games.

Around the end of 2014 I was working on what I simply called 3DSFriends, can't recall why I stopped working on it.

Feel like someone was working on a Android app that did a similar thing and was talk of that being a website and since I was just keeping up with coding I just fell off and I had hopes MyNintendo would link Wii/3DS up so it functioned similar to befriending someone on the Wii U which never happened.

Anyway... not to take away from this thread, I'm all for the idea! more ways to find people to play with is great.

Try limiting the input to 12-letter long string numerical codes. Friend codes use no letters, so blocking any submission that contains anything but the - and numbers should be fine.

I made a website with a basic database and all that, tell me what you guys think (tho I still think a 3DS app would be better). http://facecode.yolasite.com/
This is actually all we need... Even with the app, we'd still need to manually input the code.. Unless you can think of a way to overhaul the current friends list without breaking game support.

Someone is spamming your database with glitch ascii art

lol on it.

That might take a while, when I'm done with this I might make a new thread elsewhere if it works out.

EDIT: Accidently deleted some real entries, please re-enter.

I think I took care of the weird ASCII art messing with the page by using a new layout, but entering ASCII art is still possible and I can't do a thing about it, all I could do was limit the amount of characters. I will keep monitoring the database and remove weird submissions tho (and I left a nice note for the troll in the submission message :creep:).

Some games are able to add friends to the list (such as pokémon and MH4U), so why not a homebrew app installed as cia?
