Hardware Replacement screen fail.....

A friend of mine tried to replace the broken screen on his switch and he broke the 4 pin connector that hooks up the screen. It looks like an easy fix but, I'm worried about the two solder pads in the pictures next to where the 4 pin connector goes. If I solder the ffcable directly to the 4 pins do I need to make sure they are grounded to the two solder pads? I would rather not short out the switch..... Thanks

So question is, does the screen attach with a flex cable or ffc? If it does that's not a fun soldering job, possible but not fun. Also, is it possible to provide a clearer shot of the area in question? I think I can figure out where everything is going but not 100%. Also, it looks like it's just the digitizer connector that is busted. I would look into trying to find a replacement connector on the net or from an old electronic and replacing it.

II would say buy another connector to solder on it as that would be easier. You can solder just the cable but I think that would take more time and not be as easy.

Much easier, have you ever tried to solder it a ffc? I did once, wiikey fusion ffc for my gc portable I did a few years back. So yeah not fun but rewarding tho.

For someone who works in the electronics trade this is an easy fix, buy a new connector to solder back on or just use jumper wires from the ribbon too the pads.

I have I do lot of soldering started November of last year. I also buy broken xbox elite controllers online they have missed up joysticks and i replace them and resell them. I also fix all my own stuff now such as a few 4k tv's i got this year for free that were broken.(they needed new LED's.) as for the small ribbon cables I find them hard as hell and easy to miss up trying to solder them. A new connector like that would take me no time to do.

Yeah totally agree with just replacing the connector.

Altho, if I'm looking at that pic right, it looks like the trace toward the bottom is ripped up? I have no idea honestly but it looks like it might be.

ya I looked at the pic and it does look like it may be but i can not say 100%. But try just replacing it if it does not work after that then you know that the trace is ripped up and then you have to do a little mod to fix it.

If I were to find another 4 pin connector to solder(I'll look), I really hope the four solder points are available in the back of the board as well. If not, I'm not sure how im going to do it without something heating all four at once and quickly throwing on the connector. I'll check the back of the board soon.

I really want to play this thing. It works in docked mode but, I've been hesitant to buy any games until I fix this thing.

Those pads are likely only to hold the connector in place, in the case of metal connectors I believe they also ground the outside of the connector (helps to avoid interference I guess)
