Hello everyone. I just purchased this n3ds ll that was listed as "for repair" because it wouldn't power up. Swapped the top screen and shell and when it powers up it goes directly to the Gateway menu. I don't have a Gateway cart with it, so I looked for alternative ways to boot it. Got to the menu in the attached pic and tried booting into classic mode, but it hangs on a black screen. I ordered an R4 Gold Pro flash cart since maybe I'll try ntrboot to get luma or godmode installed, but not sure if'll I'll brick anything. I'm fairly new to modding the 3ds systems, and I didn't even know Gateway was a thing until this bad boy popped up. Any suggestions on what to do next?

I for sure want to get rid of Gateway, and I added a pic of the sd card contents from the console.

Thanks!

Was able to successfully run NTRBoot + Safeb9Installer to overwrite Gateway. Got GM9 working, sysnand backed up, and the console updated to the latest version. Final question is, am I good to move forward with the region change section of the guide?

If you have that backup sure. Go for it. It anything goes wrong you can just use NTRBoot to boot Godemode9 and restore.
