Hi. So I have this jailbroken N3DSXL with a dust particle underneath the top screen. it's distracting but I hesitate to remove it by myself.

Can I send it to Nintendo to remove it? Will they discover my console is jailbroken and throw it away?

Alternatively, can I take it to a third part repairer? How can I ensure they know what they're doing?

    I live in the UK.

P.S. I don't mind paying a fee for Nintendo to fix it, as obviously the console is out of warranty.

    Thank you.

I'm assuming that your 3DS has not warranty left, is that right?

I dont understand what warranty has to do with anything. I dont think nintendo cares what so ever about dust.

I'm asking bc if he sent it to Nintendo and the 3DS was not warranty left most likely is going to be a out warranty repair, it will come with a cost

Best thing to do is contact Nintendo directly, explain the issue to them and find out if that issue is cover by warranty or not?

I dont think any company cares about dust. I dont believe there is any company that warrantys screen dust. Its likely going to be a paid for thing. Just to figure which is going to be more.

Quite certain about that... I would not get to Nintendo about that, the only option that they would propose is a replacement of the screen assembly.
In any case, it would be quite a hassle to have the N3DS fully disassembled for some dust. Even pros can mess things up especially with upper screen

The thing is. Specks of dust would never fall under any sort of warranty. Nor would nintendo give a shit about it. You would be paying full amount of what a screen replacement is if they even take the console. Best is to see what nintendo would charge, and what a 3rd party repair shop would charge.

Yes, the only difference is that a repair shop could propose a cleanup and not a replacement. What's not clear is how the dust got in the assy in the first place. The few cases I saw where after water damage, when the top screen was working but rusted till the inner part, and rust finally got free in the enclosure.

Still, nintendos warranty does not cover such things. only defects which were caused by manufacturer. Which this would not be classed as.

What I'm really unsure now is whether I send it to Nintendo and risk them discovering my console is jailbroken, or send to a third party repairer and risk them not doing the job correctly...

What would happens if Nintendo finds out that your 3DS is JB? would they decline the repair?

Was your console case opened and soldered or tampered with in any way?
