I was wondering if there is a way to remove data from games themselves in order to save storage space. In particular, there is the new Blizzard game compilation coming to switch that is 4 gb(!) for 3 SNES games. The game will have bonus content like interviews which I wonder might be a big part of the bloating of this game.

Has there been anything to remove videos or other unnecessary data and still play the game?

you can create an nsz, but I don't know how that works exactly. it's for storage as a backup only.

Yeah I don't know of any automated tools just for that, but you can unpack the game and the romfs using hactool, take out the files you don't want, and repack. The cleanest way with eg. interview videos would be to replace them with tiny dummy videos of the same format, but if you take the easy route and just remove the files, then you should be fine as long as you don't choose those options from the menu (trying to play a video that doesn't exist might crash the game).

they have tools for the 360 from what I remember like that. there's one that will either remove or downgrade the video samples from a game. there's like four levels, but I don't know how reliable they are. there's something like that with the ps3 as well, but in both cases, they recommend you backup the files in case the game crashes. lol so I guess unless you know the game runs fine all the way through, it's risky.
