I think this forum need a button where we should be able to deleted our own post, this should fix the "-snip" message when someone fix his post ;)

I have never been a fan of the idea. If some guy goes and removes all his posts from a thread, and multiple people had replied to him beforehand, but forgot to quote his post, the thread's going to be left not making a lick of sense. It's just going to be an abused feature.

If you ever want your post(s) removing, you can just simply report them.

Something that would be nice though is silent editing priveliges! I'm tired of this "last edited" watermark sometimes...

Well, if you edit it within a minute, no watermark will be visible.

Actually no. If the author of the post wants to remove it it's because he has some great reason behind either because the information wasn't fitting, he realized he shouldn't have post that on that thread or because he gone way too offtopic in that thread , regretted it and don't really want a warning so he can just remove as his desire.
Reporting to mods only lengths the process and makes it more painful for the mod and user than it should be. It should be an inner right to the user to fully control his posts

Or you know. The person could think twice before posting anything too.

Or you know sometimes on the rush of the moment people don't think about it and later regret.
Also super useful or double/triple/quadra posting in threads due slow connections

i thought this was going to be a shitpost on how to remove shitpost: Simply remove the post button. I dislike this idea tho. It could cause confusion.

I'm already aware of that. But that's just only within a minute, isn't it... I'm talking about over that minute.

All I am saying is that it is an option; I have heard several of the staff explain to members that they can report their posts to be deleted.
May I also ask how it makes it painful for the mods? I honestly fail to understand how it could be a painful job just sacraficing 10 seconds per post that has requested to be deleted. It should still be near-effortless...

10 seconds per user that reports it post for deletion in a huge community with people that want to delete its posts.
Also I had a pm with a mod that explained to me that mass delete isn't that simple and requires more work than just delete and that it was a headache to delete posts.
Also you could avoid getting the mods involved and just doing it yourself if you had the power thus the remove post button

Surely it is something that doesn't often happen?

Expand on this, please. What are the exact steps to removing reported posts then? Seems to me you know a lot more than me in the way the 'Temp works...

Ask raulpica he's the one who told me how it worked.
My point is that you should be able to remove/fully manage your posts at your will not depend of mods to do so

users shouldn't "snip" their post when the solution is found, they should keep the question AND post the solution so other users with the same issue will be happy to find an answer.

It's also braking the conversation flow when users are deleting their old posts, thinking they should (for whatever reason).
Reading the old thread are often useful, and it's frustrating to see empty/deleted messages, you don't know what you miss. even more when you search answers for a problem, and you see "never mind, I found the solution [but I WONT TELL YOU]"

Removing post is a expressed thing, I been told by mods themself like @Cyan and @raulpica and others, that keeping post is always better due to having information that others may like to see in the future. So they are responsible for decision making in keeping post or deleting them.

    Why keep post?
    • Valuable information for other users
    • Avoid confusing others who are reading and see one sided conversation, like confusion. (example is removing post that is part of multiple person discussion will result in not being able to understand the others comments)
    Why remove them?
    • Violation of rules
    • Unnecessary comments found by mod. (There is a edit button for a reason)
    • "Clensing" comments not based on any real use (Example counter arguement or pointing out someone flaws for the purpose of attacking or insults)
    • Overall nonsense
Perhaps the question should be why there is a edit button that most people don't feel like using that would think is not enough that removing the post is? Either way is up to moderators to decide. So i mean, i been explained this before. I am not saying is a bad idea, but you know people abuse privilages so is just one more thing to add to that can go out of control, just like the dislike button, or the featured post button.

Even when we delete an account (rarely, but it happens), we are not deleting the messages to prevent breaking discussion flow.
the user name is replaced "guest xxxxx", but messages are kept.

If you want to remove your thread or your post, you can report it. it has the same effect than a "delete" button.
    ask and/or explain why.

Don't forget that "valuable information" in forums like the 3ds gets very old very quick

Well that is a fault not of my concern. :P

I cannot control anything here but my own actions, if you mean noob paradise, how there over 10,000 post of things new people are unwilling to read through to get their solutions, yes, i admit is pretty daunting to have to find such things through mass unorganised section. But I'm just a user like you so why concern ourself with such things? Need a quick response and accurate answer? Ask a question, or search between waiting times. ;)

GBATemp is a proud sponser of Noobs. But let's be honest, no one will actually willing try reading 10,000 for some answers even if they are repeatedly responded to. You wouldn't and i wouldn't either. You would be there for days, you have to be some special kind of bored to do that.:P

You can't really just click "delete" on a bunch of posts and call it a day. I have to remove posts in clumps that have the same reason (for example "Off-topic") or otherwise users will complain about the reason their post was removed (yes, really).

For example, one of the other mods removed a bunch of posts with "Piracy/warez", and a guy contacted me because his own post was just a REPLY to the warez request. But now it looked like he requested warez as well - he was truly hurt by this and wanted the removal reason amended and I obliged.

As such, I have to carefully look at posts, find an accurate reason (I get complaints all the time about "what, my post wasn't <rude/off-topic/warezrequest>!" even with the correct reason) and remove them in groups.

I try to remove the first one independently (with the proper reason) and the next ones as "reply to deleted post" or "quoting a deleted post".
because, for the same reason, users are not happy if I just select a batch of posts and mark the same reason for all of them.

Is this also why some other people complain about the mods being slow sometimes, because you have to thoroughly think about how you're going to handle the situation? Or are you guys just AFK when and if it happens?

Also, I honestly thought it would be a quick task to handle. Sorry about underestimating that...
