If something would be added to this masterpiece, I vote for CHD file support.

It is compression of drive, that shrinks file size to around 50% and streamlines file read/detection. Also it is streamable, with means no wait for decompression is needed to play.

Format introduced with MAME (regularly being updated).
chdman.exe is the file that converts files.

Hi @Cromax. If you are on a N3DS, you can run PC Engine CD-Rom games full speed using Retroarch now. The Mednafen PCE core has CHD support. Check out the JustinWeiss development builds in the Unofficial Retroarch thread.

With that said, when I tried the core on my own setup, I could not get my CHD to properly load. I don’t know if it’s an issue with the image I worked from (my old CDs are incredibly beat up at this point). Maybe you will have better luck.

Mednafen PCE core has scaling problems, all games are non-integer scaled and look (to the point of being unplayable for me) horrible. temperPCE has no scaling issues, so maybe some day this issue can be addressed in the retroarch core.

Is that true even if you enable integer scaling in Video Settings?

I guess this is kinda off topic, but yeah, with the setting off, the image goes to the edges of the screen and is flickery and blocky, with it on, the image is slightly reduced in size and is still non-integer and similarly flickery and blocky. I have cycled through all available aspect ratios, although the only relevant ones are core provided or DAR, and none are scaling properly. version 1.8.9 (mednafen pce fast 0.9.36.1)
How are your settings? No scaling issues? I always test with Bonks adventure and Dead moon. Thanks!

Back to temperPCE and in fact all of the bubble2k16 emulators:

The one simple feature I am surprised is not there is to turn the bottom screen off. As they left it, the bottom screen is always on even with info disabled. It drives me nuts to see that black screen there with the backlight on wasting battery. Anyone else bothered by this?

good point! I'm not very bothered by it but I have noticed it. would be nice for it to turn off.

Yes, but I guess I made my peace with it. @bubble2k16 was a magician. I have a few wishes if he ever returns from retirement, like a fast forward toggle, and CHD support and would put the lower screen on that list.

At one point I had hoped that he might come back with a PSX emulator. But thanks to @justinweiss that’s no longer necessary.

Woah, hold it there! A PSX emulator for O3ds?

Just wanted to drop off that since updating to the latest nightly mednafen pce is displaying properly with no scaling issues. It may have even been my config files since I totally wiped the retroarch directory during the update this time.

So is there any chance for this emulator to ever get an update that will make it work with chd roms?

If you are on a New 3DS, the mednafen retroarch core has CHD support and is really excellent.
Is it tho? I tried it and I couldn't load any cd roms (neither cue nor chd). The original Turbografx games worked but they weren't in the correct aspect ratio and looked really bad because of that and I couldn't find the option to change it just for this core

Are you sure you have syscard3.pce in the right place? Anyway, TemperPCE can't even deal with multiple .bin files, I doubt it will ever be updated to deal with chd.

You can set per game or per core aspect ratio in the Settings. How long ago did you try and did you have the right bios setup?

Alright I put it in the right place and it actually works, thanks!

Yes, with sound disabled it runs nearly at full speed. At least the game i tried, Digimon World 1.
I assume some games with more vertex being rendered all the time would struggle tho (DW1 only has the digimon and the player as 3D models, backgrounds are images and items are billboarded sprites, so i assume it's slightly cheaper to render than.. say.. crash bandicoot warped)

How do you load BIN/CUE files please? I've placed the CD3 bios in the correct folder. PCE titles are perfect but it won't load single file BIN/CUE titles that work on other emulators?
