You don't *have* to do any of that. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to 9.2, then install arm9loaderhax.

Or at least upgrade to 9.2 and install menuhax. Seriously.

This is how you update btw: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/9.2.0-Update

Just be sure to choose the o3ds firmware pack unless you like bricks.

I know how to update an install all that stuff, but I don't want, and I have my reasons. I dont use the 3ds for playng games (except some old emulators), I need it for coding and studying part of the firmware.

Anyway I'm planning to buy a N3DS for 9.x FW.

But thank you for your hint.

Now I'm downloading Curse of Monkey Island, don't know if it works, but I hope yes!

Ah. I'm surprised you can't simply launch the 3dsx directly from ninjhax though. I thought it was able to run 3dsx files on older firmwares too.

From Ninjhax 1.1 the host app selection doesn't seem to work, and I don't have youtube or other usefull cia installed on sysnan. But we are going OT. Let's focus on this great work.

Now copying Curse on the SD. Finger crossed

Here's a "good" version of TheCruel's CIA. (It's still mute and broken, just like the one I posted before)

Can you tell what's wrong with mine? The commands used are:

Code:
bannertool makebanner -o scummvm.bnr -i backends/platform/3ds/app/banner.png -a backends/platform/3ds/app/banner.wav
Created banner "scummvm.bnr".
built ... scummvm.bnr
makerom -f cia -o scummvm.cia -elf scummvm.elf -rsf backends/platform/3ds/app/scummvm.rsf -banner scummvm.bnr -icon scummvm.smdh
built ... scummvm.cia

Using recycled audio and RSF template. I don't understand.

Did you strip the .elf?

Use bannertool to create a proper icon. The one used for the homebrew launcher is useless.

I don't see anything else being wrong.

I built a CIA out of his code.bin too. It was alright.

Oh boy, I just tested a normal ScummVM build (with the majority of engines enabled). The CIA seemed to install/run without issue. It's 22MB instead of the current 8MB. The .text section is 17MB and cannot be run as 3dsx with any known targets.

RIP 3dsx users, I'm going to build a CIA now with all engines enabled for testing purposes.
