mp4 to pmf?
It is not hard to make mp4 to pmf by using ffmpeg (add one more line I guess?)
However it seems like the umd movie composer prefer avi as inputs and my video editor outputs avi files by default.
Furthermore, it is designed to make it easier to distinguish the input/output of this tool by using different formats.
:)

Weird I was sure there was a way to play mp4 on the PSP...
Yeah, the home menu. Encoding all the videos with the proper encoders. But pmf is specifically used by games, movies and other licensed content. Basically the stuff on umd and digital download from playstation network. :P

The only difference I can tell between them is that pmf has that sony atract audio encoded but the videos are the same as any youtube or online video player. Weather the sony audio coded is better than the standard MP4 using AAC is better, I don't know. But you know sony, always trying to force their stuff on us consumers weather we like it or not. (HINT HINT, MEMORY STICKS/VITA CARD) :ninja:

The Vita memory sticks were basically an anti piracy measure the huge problem is that the Vita early models didn't have enough inner storage to even game save files. Also unlike what Nintendo did with the 3DS, you didn't get a free memory card when you bought the Vita.

This is a tool collection which can helps you convert PSP Movie Format (PMF) files.
Seems to work okay. Glad it uses FFMPEG and with a nice batch file. :P

Though there some other "oddball" formats that gets used for pmf files. For example, the FMV in the game queen's gate spiral chaos has all the PMF bundled and stored inside a "Movie.bin" file. I had to use another tool that I found months ago (during my hunt for pmf decoder/converters) that can extract them, and yes it worked just fine. Also UMD video disc have a MPS extension. Some also have subtitle files that go with it. If you managed to do more updates, I think finding all the supported extensions and adding them would be good improvement.

Another thing I was curious about,

The Vita memory sticks were basically an anti piracy measure the huge problem is that the Vita early models didn't have enough inner storage to even game save files. Also unlike what Nintendo did with the 3DS, you didn't get a free memory card when you bought the Vita.
Very unlikely of that. Just sony's greed at work. Invent a new storage thing that sony can control and distribute because it only worked in their thing. They can charge however much they want and you as a consumer have no other cheaper options will just end up buying one anyway cause you need a memory card to save games and store content. :nayps3:

Meanwhile anti piracy... where you basically have so many restrictions of what you can and can't do including basic things such as needing a specific usb cable to connect the vita to installing the content manager software (also by sony) to even put videos/music or extract pictures taken with the camera from the vita and Nothing else. Is a miracle you didn't have to use some sony made video/audio/image formats for your psp or vita. (Did I mention needing playstation plus to back up save data or how much encryption it has) Funny how both Vita and WII U managed to get a full jailbreak by using web exploit. Or is it a coincidence they have things in common. :ninja:

Nintendo 3DS (Or even DSI before it) used a common SD card. 3DS systems came with one due to how cheap it is and is only 2GB which is enough for the digital only games, dlc and update patchesfile sizes compared to vita games that was over 2GB.

Just saying; Sony would have done better by offering two options, one with just the console and another with a game plus memory card.

stored inside a "Movie.bin" file
This "Movie.bin" sounds like an archive file that should be handled by writing a standalone tool/script.

Also UMD video disc have a MPS extension. Some also have subtitle files that go with it.
I haven't take a look on the UMD video disc before. Are those subtitle files embedded into the MPS files or separated?

Yes, the MPS file contains the data. Image below, the MPS is the files from official UMD disc unaltered. Extracted it becomes the expected files. OMA for audio, 264 for video, and lots of SUBS files for the subtitles. This is just a example, it's similar to most anime that gets put into MKV files (Japanese/English) and subtitles with audio.

You can extract these files using the free VGM Toolbox app to "Demultiplex" the stuff. But I haven't seen any tools or programs that actually managed to make use of the subtitle files when converting psp video files.
