But when I hit X to save it, it goes back to theme shuffle off. How do I keep it turned on?? oh, am I not supposed to hit X again? Just hit start and leave the program?

Yeah but when I press X and save, why does it turn off the theme shuffle? And why won't they shuffle??? You said to press X after picking the themes, and I do, but that's when it turns off shuffle mode and nothing happens when I leave homebrew.

You hit x to "open" the theme shuffle. Then after you've changed it you press x again to "close and save" the theme shuffle. Then quit. That's just how it works.

I quit but there are no themes on my homescreen. It's just blank. So obviously it isn't working. Does Nintendo's theme shuffle thing have to be turned on?

You need to have used Nintendo's theme shuffle before. Go turn it on with a few themes, then turn it off again and have just a single basic theme/no theme before starting CHMM2. It's a good idea to always set it to basic/none before starting CHMM2 because when there's data already there it interferes with permissions and CHMM2 usually can't change all the files.
Read through the rest of the thread if it still doesn't work, your questions have likely been answered before.

I wanna try the shuffle thing with some themes I have.
Does anyone have any smdh files for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon? I need 2 of them.
(I'm too lazy to create them myself as I'm away from a computer...)

You don't need the smdh files, it works without. On the first page you see one theme with an icon, that's the smdh. The others with just 3 letters are how it appears if there isn't one.

Every theme I try I get a error saying

Error: [string "?"] :159: cannot access ext data archive

Press A to restart
Press B to exit
Press Y to enable FTP Server

FTP state: OFF

Can anyone help resolve this for me.

Have you ever used themes before?

Try doing this
Home Screen -> Set a simple theme, like black -> boot into *whatever*hax, go to chmm2 and see if it works

Thanks Ketal that fixed it. Been going crazy trying to get this to work and the solution was that simple lol

Also, I finally understood why my BGM.ogg files weren't working for me.
The .ogg files must be encoded through libsndfile (so this means that any other libsndfile extension might work just fine, like .au or .aiff). Xiph OGG container, that is the default encoder for .ogg files in Adobe Audition and other audio editing programs, has a way more efficient compression but has limited compatibility

So, if you're encoding .ogg files, just make sure to not use the Xiph container

AIFF doesn't work with Vorbis audiocodec but with PCM16 audiocodec (as you can see in luaSound source). It's like a WAV continaer but with Big Endian as endianess.

Is it possible to make a tool for this? I'm sure that this will be very useful and many people would love this.

Grrrr why is it seeming to freeze no matter what theme I start with???? What am I missing????? I thought it was a problem theme, but now it does it no matter what theme is there when I get out of CHMM. So what's the problem???? I did get the Nintendo shuffle working right again, I learned that the error is expected, but why won't it stop freezing on the custom themes?????
