Hacking reiNAND noob question.

So I successfully downgraded my N3DSXL to 9.2 and downloaded the latest reiNAND, but how am I supposed to launch it? I try to launch it with HBL and I only get a black screen.

Do you have an emuNAND set up on your console? Do you have the latest firmware.bin? The latter will definitely cause a black screen on boot, the former should make it not work but not sure if black screen is the symptom or not.

No I don't have emuNAND, I try booting to it from the HBL but it just gives me a black screen when opening the EmuNAND installer

Backup your SD contents, go to the gateway website, download the latest gateway files, put launcher.dat on the root of your SD card, put gateway.3dsx in your 3ds folder, go to homebrew, open gateway.3dsx, when the menu opens scroll to the right till you get to format emuNAND, and select it. When it is finished, turn off your console (down plus B from gateway menu), take out the SD card and copy back your backup.


Now try ReiNand again.

I don't know sorry, I've never done a downgrade myself. If you suspect an incomplete downgrade you could use the homebrew that checks this.

ok so when I downgraded my 3ds, it looked like it was halfway done with the .cia files, then it gave me an error has occured, my 3ds froze and i thought I had bricked it, but to my surprise it was on 9.2 but right now when I went on the browser it was the one from 9.9 not 9.2 which leads me to believe it didnt downgrade completely

If you can get back into the downgrader, do the whole process again. You are on what is known as a frankinfirmware. they are not safe to use. are you using the normal sysupdater or safe sysupdater?

i just ran it again on safesysupdater and this time it completed, it didn't reboot after 10 seconds so I turned off the 3ds and rebooted manually, this time I can get to the gateway website but it just hangs on loading

Gateways web exploit does not work on the new 3ds. only old 3ds and 2ds. If you happen to know some one that either owns; cubic ninja, ocarina of time 3ds, or a sky 3ds card to use one of those as a rom back up, you wont be able to enter gw to format emunand. But there still may be hope for you! Seeing as you're able to use the web broswer, gets the files for the homebrew launcher, once youve done that, put the gw launcher on the root of the sd card and the gateway "ninjahax" folder in the 3ds folder that contains all your homebrew. then search yls8 and use his browser based exploit to load the homebrew launcher, launch the gw mode homebrew file, then you can format emunand that way. then repeat all listed steps, but this time open your theme option first on system menu, then do all steps again, install menuhax and you can boot into gw mode or cfw. the cn and oot section is for those that can not access the browser at all.

If you're going to go to the trouble of getting the HB launcher to use the Gateway menu, why not just use Emunand9tool at that point? It probably has a better boot rate than gw.3dsx anyway (in my experience it very rarely boots at all :/).

I've noticed that that actually depends on what boot fix you're using in boot ctr or ctr boot. My reinand wouldn't launch until I set it to 150.

I've noticed that that actually depends on what boot fix you're using in boot ctr or ctr boot. My reinand wouldn't launch until I set it to 150.

I finally got it working, the downgrade didn't finish the first time around everything is good now. I want to thank everybody for the help today!
