I just got a audio line-in cable that I can plug in my DS with, and I just recorded a song with standard MS Sound Recorder, and it sounds terrible. The sound is way lower than how I made it on the DS. also sound recorder sucks cuz it only records for a minute =[

so, is there any good [preferably free - although i could always download a crack of a shareware program] recording software i can use with it?

A good ram-light program is VSTHost. It's not a traditional DAW, but it's one of the only freeware standalone programs I know of that can host VST plug-ins as well as record from a live source. It has great quality and will also allow you to edit the songs you capture with any sort of VST plug-in. It exports as .WAV files though, so if you want to convert it into something like mp3 or OGG you'll have to use another program.

If you really just want to capture the source though, Neschn is right, Audacity is great.
