Gaming Recommended DS Games to Play?

Here's the best advice.

Keep asking these threads as the essentials list is minimalist and sketchy. Sure you can go find reviews and the rest, but that's only semi-helpful and can be sketchy as can total scoring avg sites like metacritic. Also perhaps it's best to not trust the faceless but people here to get a feel from a name and a few lines, then do your research if it seems to fit your tastes.

To those who can't stand these threads anymore. SHUT UP AND IGNORE IT. No one is forcing you to read or respond.

I thought I saw a detailed thread of recommended games on another site, but maybe someone should do one on here along with the votes. Maybe edit the the essentials list with a small brief summary of each game. Get people that actually play video games all the time or get a description from the mods or magazine crew on each game. Or make a wiki essential list, that way, for the lazy people that don't want to research, they'll have a small description of each game along with the amount of votes the game got.

WINDY X WINDHAM TOTALLY SUCKS

MOON WORST DS GAME EVER

play Lock's Quest

Care to be more specific? You just come off a troll if you don't give justification for your answers. DS games, TWEWY, I have heard great things about, but I was never really able to get into the control system all that much. I've gotta try that game again! Suikoden tierkreis is an interesting game, it has great graphics, some decent music and an alright story line. The voice acting isn't totally terrible either, but it does get grating after a little while. The professor layton games definitely offer a different type of puzzle game than from those we're usually used to and for that I commend it. Castlevania games are fun side-scrolling games, in particularly aria of sorrow.

There are also a bunch of great ROM hacks that enhance the playability of certain DS games, I remember looking in the rom-hacking and translations part of the NDS forum yesterday and seeing that someone had made an all in one Pokemon Heart Gold/Silver patch that allowed you to catch/trade (essentially make the multiplayer experience) single player, no more trading evolutions and so on and so forth. Pokemon, however, get's quite old fast, maybe the new generation coming up will be a breath of fresh air, but I highly doubt it.

If you haven't played Golden Sun and Golden Sun the Lost Age for the GBA, there's a sequel coming out to them on the NDS; Golden Sun DS. It's quite hyped and currently in development, though I'm hoping to hear some more news about it at E3 this week. The reason I'd reccomend Golden Sun DS is because if it's anything like the previous games; Great Graphics, Good Music, Awesome traditional RPG storyline, interesting puzzles!

Chrono Trigger is timeless, though, the DS version received a bit of a pointless and frustrating dungeon. However, a game that has 12-13 endings is nothing to laugh at, especially considering it's a port of the critically acclaimed SNES game widely considered to be one of the best games in existence. Sure, the graphics are old and they didn't receive an update like Final Fantasy IV (Another Great Game to Play), but if you use your imagination and really get in to the game it's a blast. Honestly, I just load up no$gba to listen to the introduction sometimes ;P

Dragon Quest V, the popular japanese RPG puts you in the shoes of a little boy and follows his journey growing up and turning from a little boy to a married adult. It's definitely one of my favorite games, it has a decent sound track and it makes for an excellent story as well as a game.

Nostalgia is a game that was really hyped-up as a game that could re-define the RPG genre in ways which it failed to live up to. That being said it's a different type of modern RPG that offers distinctive differences to setting that still make it stand out!

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor is a strategy RPG with a distinctive "choose your own" adventure style; essentially your choices have drastic effects on the gameplay, which can be hard for newer players. Monster fusion, though, and a variety of skills abilities make this an interesting game worth a play. The sound track and the mood are also top notch!

^on a Lighter note; Disgaea is another game with a high reputation; but what's unique about Disgea is that as a strategy game you can equip just about anything, did I mention that there are something along the lines of 10,000 levels? Disgea is a game that doesn't take itself too seriously, is comedic, fun and addicting. It's worth picking up now and again ; )

Hope I've given you some thoughts on some games ; )

A troll ? ? ? ? Play Moon yourself, what a massive piece of shit. Metroid prime ripoff, tons of worthless corridors, no exploring just cover the map, no secrets, can't jump or duck, the enemies are worthless, the weapon effects are nerf balls, the sound effects are a joke, but worst of all is the screeching grating music. Windy X Windham is another dirty piece of shit with horrible controls, horrible animation, but it does have tits. Lock's Quest is way badass kind of an homage to arcade classic Rampart with a killer story and a way good ending.

I don't see whatsoever how he came off as a troll, accusing him of one is just low on your part.
Playing a non-linear game is not hard at all for new players, it actually is a bit easier for them cause it gives them more reason to play a game repeatedly.

Nostalgia was actually one of the best games I've ever played and lived up to all the expectations I was looking for in the game.

Chrono Trigger for DS is VERY recommended to people and it wasn't the same damn dungeon, so how exactly was it frustrating? As I recall, you fought ANYWHERE there were monsters. I'd recommend it to anyone, it's one of the best games on DS.

I've never played Lock's Quest until recently and I like it so far, I enjoy building things to keep things out and going out to attack, as well.

For the OP: In the end, to each their own opinion, you can research the games we've all mentioned and see which ones suit your taste, only you know what will interest you.

You've given me plenty of thoughts on games. I've heard most of the games that you suggested, but have never tried them.

I thought Suikoden Tierkreis was a Japanese game because of the title name, but there also were English versions of it. I can see that it has nice graphics, and holy shit it's a 198 MB file. Downloading

I've also played Disgaea, but have not finished it, due to the amount of unplayed games I had before. Downloading

Played Nostalgia for the first 2 hours of game play and found it boring (to me).

Played Shin Megami Tensei as well and found it boring too.

Chrono Trigger seems nice. I'll think about it.

I'm not so sure about Dragon Quest V, since it's a Japanese game (I barely understand any Japanese) and I may get stuck in the game. I'm thinking of trying the Dragon Quest games though.

I2aven's_Sage MOST AWESOME POST. That's exactly what I was talking about. Take the essentials list or not, hell just what you liked or not from actually trying and doing, then just shove a line or two in there saying what's up.

You got it quite well there in a minimal amount of lines that should instantly draw someones attention to either mull it over with research or let it die and move on as game of interest.

Naw 4 and 5 are in english, I didn't like 5 like 4. I think it may be as 4 is chopped up into cool little chapters with a distinct party in each until they meet up over the final longer one. It's like you're buying 5 mini rpgs in one package.

JRPG is a new way people break up 'what is an rpg' because it needs to be done now. A JRPG is nothing like a W(estern)RPG which is more stat based, attunement of junk etc like old D&D boardgame stuff, and then you get your rpg spinoffs with tactical and strategy rpg where you leave much to the hopes the AI won't fail you as you have no direct control or it's turn based and have to hope the AI isn't rigged to kick your ass if you don't do exact what the programmer wanted per turn on a stage which is why I can't stand either of those.

Dragon Quest 4 and 5 on the DS are JRPG, the most classic of console based RPG games going back with this series to roughly 1985 on the NES in Japan(Famicom) followed by Final Fantasy 1 shortly after.
