The selling point of Razer’s Blade is its unique new touchpad controls. This full-sized touchpad is really a touchscreen that can function a bit like an iPhone. Razer says this screen can be used for a variety of things. Players might use it to manage units in their RTS, surf the Internet while gaming, IM their friends, etc. The touchscreen can basically function like a second monitor. This unique trackpad can also be used as a mouse alternative. Razer has worked in custom gestures that will allow gamers to perform macro-like functions with a special swipe across the pad. Anyone who’s tried to play and FPS with a trackpad knows it’s not easy, but Razer claims that playing shooters with the Razer Blade’s touchpad is almost as good as using a mouse.
Above this unique keypad are 10 dynamic keys whose functionality changes depending on what you’re playing. The Razer Blade features a 17 inch display and is only 0.88 inches thick. Since it’s made from aluminum, it’s less than seven pounds in weight. Razer also co-developed a new chipset with Intel. Check out the specs below.

2.8GHz Intel® Core™ i7 2640M Processor
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 Memory
17.3" LED Backlit Display (1920x1080)
NVIDIA GeForce® GT 555M with NVIDIA® Optimus™ Technology – 2GB Dedicated GDDR5 Video Memory
Built-in HD Webcam
Integrated 60Wh Battery
320GB 7200rpm SATA HDD
Wireless Network 802.11 b/g/n Compatible
16.81" (Width) x 10.9" (Depth) x 0.88" (Height); 6.97lbs (Weight)

Of course, you’ll have to pay for all this power and portability. The Razer Blade will retail for $2,799.99. Still, the Blade is a slick-looking machine and we can’t wait to put it through its paces before its release near the end of the year.

That's some serious power with a heavy price tag. What do you think? Is it worth it or is it a bust?

I don't see any dedicated PC gamer really wanting to spend such a ridiculously high price on this. It's interesting and all, but you can buy a PC with probably the same (if not better) specs for significantly less.

Plus it's not like a lot of PC gamers actually get out of the house, amiright?

Good god, that thing will sell, at most, 5 units.

NO ONE would spend that much money. If they did, chances are they have no idea how to even use it.

When they have 5 year contracts with all the major game studios stating that they will implement enhanced touchpad functionality for the Razer's pad, then it would be a good buy. I'd wait a couple more years as touchpads finaly have caught on with the ipad and are just becoming mainstream. I have a tablet laptop from 2004 and it wasn't tell now that there were actualy programs that made it worth it, to bad they won't run on such a poorly specced machine.

Maybe this is the kind of hardware the wii u need?

I didn't like pc gaming, so wasn't really interested from the get go.... Yea.

Laptop looks good.

Yes people, desktop parts are cheaper than laptop parts and more powerful... Fucking Duh™. You can take pretty much any prebuilt gaming laptop and custom-build a gaming desktop for less money. Again, Fucking Duh™.

But yeah, I don't see the market for this thing.

Dude. LAN parties.

Oh sure, ubiquitous broadband internet and voice chat kind of removed any need for those, but they're still more common than you'd think.

Never been to a LAN party, but I have seen cases with carrying handles and specific shapes to make moving them for LAN parties easy.

I never said you needed a laptop for that, I'm just saying that PC gamers do indeed go outside. Sometimes.
