    The Unofficial Official R4Menu thread

    Links/Where to download?

Created by Fairy Wings (Not me)
Well, here's the original download link:
    Original Link

And my edited version (I just added the .nds file and a quick readme [IMG] )
    R4Menu
    Code:
What's been changed in my version?
-The option is set to English instead of Japanese
-I've made the cheats in english (used to be japanese as well)
-I've slapped together a quick (and sort of lousy) readme
-I've added the .nds file so you don't have to have this as a firmware replacement but instead a homebrew

    What is R4Menu?
It's like a hacked version of Moonshell 2, YSMenu and the original R4 firmware combined.
It plays .NDS games but cheats are only in Japanese. It DOES NOT play music or videos (for that use Moonshell 2).
Moonshell2 skins are apparently working, though I think you'll have to unpack and edit the .INI file... Or something like that. In other words, you'll have to edit the .skn file. Don't bother unless you actually know what you're doing [IMG]

    Installation Guide

It's suggested you download my modified version, because it's in English and some other small things.
Unpack the .rar file (If you don't know how to, search winRAR on Google)
Place the R4Menu on the root of your card. If you want it as a firmware replacement, place _DS_MENU.DAT on the root of your card as well.
If you want it as a homebrew, put R4Menu.nds in your apps folder and launch it with your firmware.
I suggest using Wood R4 as your firmware, trust me it's much better than this. But I still keep this on my card as a .NDS file, it's worth keeping [IMG]

    twiztidsinz's Skin Editor:
    Skin Maker

    Bugs/notes

-It loads Ds games, but the English cheats aren't working properly. The Japanese USRCHEAT.DAT from the original link works but it's Japanese. My modified English version cheats don't seem to work [IMG]
-It uses extinfo and savlib, so you can update those for Anti-Piracy (it doesn't use infolib)
-Moonshell2 skins need to be altered for them to work. I'm not really sure how to do this, don't ask me [IMG]
-The first button brings up your file browser, the second opend Moonshell2 if installed and the thrid button brings up a list of options qhich you can change to your liking.
-The .nds file has the Moonshell icon, perhaps Fairy Wings didn't realise this [IMG]
    -It's loading games pretty fast
-I suggest not to use this as your firmware, use Wood R4. But still keep this as a homebrew

    Beta Testers

-diando (tested the general uses of this firmware. Thanks a lot!)
-Sabregod (tested it on AK2i didn't work though)
-flamingo24 (found out that the 2nd button brings up Moonshell if installed)

Since this is a new firmware, any beta testers would be great!

Is this the FairyWing's firmware that Norm told us about before?

Nope, this is something a bit different.
It mimics the original R4 firmware's menu, and the file browser is Moonshell's.
    It's a combination hack [IMG]

Keep in mind only the first button in the main menu actually works, maybe they're going to develop this further?

Uh... well I'm not really sure how to screenshot a DS [IMG]
But Have you seen the original R4's menu? It's EXACTLY like that, and the File browser looks EXACTLY like Moonshell2 with the default skin.

Oh, and The third button actually does work, it's the settings tab.

I've fixed it, It shouldn't be in Japanese anymore.
It really isn't a ripoff, it's just a hacked firmware. Nothing wrong with that.

Everything else he's saying is pretty accurate [IMG]

So I guess it's just meant to be for playing games.

Yep and It loads games quickly to me. Also uses the savlib.dat and extinfo.dat from the TTDS.

    First post updated
Yeah, I guess this is a mix of Original R4 Firmware, Moonshell2 and YSMenu (which makes things confusing) [IMG]

ACTUALLY, that could be a GOOD thing! Have Wood R4 as your firmware, but if a game has Anti-Piracy, you could just update infolib, savlib and extinfo and play it through R4Menu! Heh, pretty good, even if I say so myself.

EDIT: I just checked, and it does indeed use savlib and extinfo, but it doesn't use infolib. Oh well, who cares [IMG]

The skin used is a modified Moonshell2 type3 skin.
You can unpack it, but since it is missing some images that are useless in "R4Menu", I can't get it to repack and still function.
I think I got it... I'll upload a tool in a bit if it works.

Got it working... Here ya go:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?2wzdydn0z21

Scratch that 'scratch that', lol... it works.
The problem was with the colortbl.ini file... You can't use a Moonshell2 version.

More Copied/Modified/Hacked than created..... but yeah, adding FairyWings would be nice.

Well, it's called R4Menu for a reason. I highly doubt it would work on a clone of AK2i, but why don't you try it? Nothing to lose for trying.

Indeed you can, just use the .NDS file instead of _DS_MENU.DAT.
