I bought an R4i SDHC 3DS card (NOT RTS OR v4.5)
r4i-sdhc-3ds-core.jpg

from a friend of mine, so I set about inserting my MicroSD, containing the latest R4i-SDHC 3DS kernel files (V1.77b) and a couple of .nds roms, into the R4 and stuck it into my 3DS (Version 6.3.0-12E).

However I get this message: "An error has occurred. Hold down the POWER Button to turn off the power".

I've Googled my ass off and all I can find are guides that tell me to do what I originally did in the first place. I have formatted my SD card, put the files from R4i-3DS V1.77b English.zip (moonmemo, moonshl2,R4iMenu & R4.dat) on the root of my MicroSD and still the same error, and yet the card works with a DS Lite. I'm not sure if it provides any insight, but the 3DS icon of the R4i is "The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian, Disney Interactive Studios".

I'm wondering if maybe my R4's firmware needs to be upgraded to a previous firmware before it goes to V1.77b but I'm not sure. I inserted my R4 into a DSLite to try and flash/upgrade the kernel that way but there's no start button.

It could be a simple fact that my R4i 3DS doesn't work on an up to date 3DS.

Could anyone help me with this, please?

PS: I had multiple tabs open of the GbaTemp forums and I think I may have created my topic in the wrong section. Apologies.

Well, that's a bummer. Thank you for answering. Is it due to the fact that at a certain firmware, the 3DS makes certain flash carts obsolete? It's possible the owners 3DS wasn't as up to date as mine and as such they were still able to play the R4i SDHC 3DS on their own 3DS.

One of the sites that weren't blocked on the school's network was some file uploading sites. I would upload some games, write down the URL and take it to school one day.

It was easy to bypass some of the restrictions, as one of the admins left a registry key in the administrative shares drive, which allowed me to get around the blocking of some sites.
