Hacking R4i 3DS Old Version

I have a R4i 3DS Old Version that will not update, I assume because its blocked on 3DS' consoles, so Ive been trying to use it with my Original DS, but that console doesnt detect it. Ive been told it will work on this system, so is there something Im missing or will this card not work on Original DS consoles?

I just tried the guide you gave me, though my card is a SDHC Wood version so I couldnt try everything, and none of the things I could try worked.

Ive tried a half gig and a 8 gig, nether will update with the 3DS XL I have or connect with the Original DS I have. I know my Original DS has some connection issues but most games are detected by it 90% of them time. Ill have to assume its dead I guess. Are there any carts for the 3DS XL yet or is it still blocked?

Compatibility with the XL is the same as compatibility on the 3DS, it's firmware based and they use the same firmware versions.
