A slightly prettier game list would be nice (so that instead of a list of text, you could have the games icon, then next to it the internal title of the game - then stick a list of filenames on the other screen or something).

Yes, the game selection screen could use some redesigning, but what else can they add? There's no use for an options screen, so yeah.

neither of them are 100% compatible though - just look at the threads concerning tony hawk slowdowns on the R4.

Things aren't like in the GB/C days when people had 100% carts.. :[ Every cart seems to have some problem.

afaik, R4 is 100% comaptible. Compatibility being whether a game will boot, or doesn't boot at all. Every game tested so far has been compatible. Slowdowns/freezes are another thing. Said games should still boot fine. As far as everything being compatible and running perfectly, it's not there yet due to slowdowns, freezes, non-working download play, with certain roms.

As far as the GUI goes, like kiruyama said, there's really not any options needed to run games on R4

I can't think of what else they could add to the GUI. They've already added in soft-reset and light adjustment. They wouldn't be able to do much more than rearrange the look of the GUI (which changes nothing but aesthetic appeal) or make it lean more towards moonshell/dsorganize (which isn't needed because we already have each respective application). Nonetheless, any current bugs/issues (slowdowns, download play, etc.) should probably be handled first before trying to make it look pretty ;o

I could think of a few ways it could be improved. One being the rom list on the bottom screen so you can use the touch screen as well as the control pad. Being able to use the touch screen to go into directorys but having to use the control pad to choose the rom to play is just silly.

That maybe your definition of compatible but it certainly isn't mine (or that of the dictionary).

Compatible means it works - end of.

If my television was labelled as "Compatible with all channels" but then kept losing the signal on BBC1 I would dispute the claim that it was compatible (and take it back for a refund ;> ).

The same with the R4. It boots all games so far, and most work without a problem - but there are problems. I prefer being open and honest with people - I'm not going to tell someone looking to buy a cart that it's "100% compatible" then a week later when they've gotten one say to them "just don't play this game else it will crash, oh and this one slows way down ".

2 games, out of a possible list of 800. I'm not bothered!

Actually 1 game, because castlevania runs perfectly fine on mine >=]

edit: just tested tony hawks on Kingston-japanese on FAT16... no slowdown

Kinda deviating from the original point of this thread (which to be honest, had no point at all considering the R4 is never ever gonna look like a ninja skin).

besides, Tony Hawk's slowdown AFAIK can be fixed by firmware updates, we just need to let the R4 team know what's wrong with it.

I have to agree...

Compatible means it works - yes...
100% compatible means it works with out question - no... case in point slow downs with THDHJ... 100% means that if you compaired it side by side to the original you would not notice a difference. So maybe they should list it as 99.8% compatible...

Hehe, true. But say, Tony Hawk for instance. Does it work? Yes. Does it work perfectly? No.

The word compatiblity doesn't define performance ;o Also, it's not a constant issue. Not everyone seems to be having them I've read.

Now we're taking it into a whole different scope here

If it's going to be looked at like that, then you can't use the percentage over the whole list of games released. The 100% R4 is giving (as well as reviews) is based on 0814/0814 being able to boot (of course, that's incorrect because I doubt even R4 were able to test every single game). You're moreso talking about % per game. ie. THDHJ is 99.8% "compatible" (compared to a retail). "They" (being R4 I'm assuming) shouldn't have to list 99.8% compatibility. Things like that are meant for lists that specify any differences compared to retail. Decent thing about it is that since it's already at 100% compatibility, any games that have certain issues are already working and it shouldn't take much more than them changing the firmware a bit to fix those. If someone asks me if THDHJ is compatible with R4, I'm going to say yes
tongue.gif
I'm not going to tell them it's not compatible ;o I'll be sure to mention possible slowdowns compared to a retail, but at that point it's up to them to make their own conclusion
