That's not true. The white ones were for the Chinese market, for the the rest of the world they made grey ones. Of the ones in grey they made two types, first with a spring loaded micro SD holder and later without spring loading. The one without spring loading has two indents on either side of the cartridge, the one with spring loading doesn't have the indents and looks like a regular cartridge except of course for the SD card slot. The one with spring loading also has plastic separators between the DS contacts like a regular cartridge, the newer without spring loading doesn't have this (only two of these at the far ends but not for every contact).Generation 16 said:For example, the original R4 ONLY came in white, and they never planned on releasing different colors for the cartridge, IIRC.
The proof that was from the real original team is simple; it was on www.r4ds.com which is the site of the original team. Look at the link in the GBAtemp article from those days: New R4 Shell!, picture inside. After www.r4ds.com stopped working it was on www.r4ds.cn. They were very proud when their redesigned shell was launched, I remember it well because just after that I ordered a second R4 and got the new shell (I had the one with spring loading which is still working okay by the way). Eventually the www.r4ds.com site came back as redirect to www.r4ds.me as does www.r4ds.cn now. On the .me site only the information about the white cartridge is left.
From what I understood the 1:1 clone maker uses the plastic mall and circuit design of the original team; so would be exactly the same, however this is hearsay since there is nobody to confirm this rumour. But the 1:1 clones are undistinguishable from the original non-spring loaded R4. I never heard of a white clone so if you have a white R4 then I think it is safe to assume it is a real R4 made for the Chinese market.
