Once upon a bad time, I bought a USED 3DS (don't ask why) and the R button didn't respond!

And now I'm still here!
Sometimes the R button works!
Sometimes not!
Sometimes it goes active "forever" (not physically because the button is not being held)

Like, I've tried EVERYTHING!
Blowing, cleaning it, pressing it hard AND EVEN sucking all the dust like Kirby!!

Nothing!

Like I said above, the R button is LAZY, it works whenever it WANTS!!!!

(Never buy used stuff kids or it will be WAAAAY too late)

Umm... Me and the screwdriver have... problems... Well... once upon a cursed time, I opened up my PS2 to "fix" the disc reader... and while I was opening it, the power button broke! The worst part? I opened it as safe as I could!

So I'll never ever open up ANYTHING again...

Any other crazy nintendo ideas?

  • If that doesn't work, find a friend who's good with DIY electronic repairs.
  • Is Greece's economy doing better these days? Sell your o3DS and buy a brand new, never used replacement 3DS.
  • Tell Nintendo customer service a really tragic Greek story about that o3DS. Maybe they'll feel so stricken about your plight, they'll take yours in for a low price or free repair. Just don't beg.
  • Lastly, which I don't recommend because it's bad. Borrow another 3DS indefinitely without asking or returning. Take the risk with the screwdriver repair.

Haha the last one tho
Anyway, that could be a solution! OoooOOoO I got a really great idea! I'll lose my consiousness by blowing the R button for 8 days straight and then sell it for 70$ (because the seller sold it for 50$ because he knew the R button was broken.) and then buy a 2DS xl which has 11.5 on it so I'll CFW it!

You could sell it here on temp and advertise it as having a broken r button. Heck, I would buy it for the right price. I have a few r buttons lying around and it's a really easy fix.

Don't worry, 3DSes aren't as fragile when opening, especially since the L and R button are the first thing you can replace after taking apart the console. Just go slowly since you have to disconnect their ribbons before you can completely remove the bottom plate. Also you'll need a Philips #00 screwdriver, anything bigger won't work

If you want me to be more spesific, the R button is LAZY! I hold it and 1-3 seconds later, the input is active!
No, the button is COMPLETELY fine physically! I think it's a software problem...
NO, I WON'T system update!
how would a broken R button be a software problem, even if it is ASSUMING ALL YOUR STUFF IS UP TO DATE you can safely system update

If you don't want to fix it, then sell it, gonna be an easy fix for people that know how to take it apart and put it back together, most likely you just need new shoulder buttons and cables.

The buttons and the cables are the same component and can't be separated (at least not easily)

It's really frustrating, considering that the R button is completely fine, I blew on it (the classic nintendo way), i SUCKED it! Yeah, I sucked all the dust like Kirby, I put compressed air on the holes and EVEN cleaning it didn't solve anything! The button is STILL lazy! It's like I'm holding the button for like 5 seconds and THEN it works! There MUST be a way :( But... I can't sell it considering my 3DS is ALREADY used! Even then, I'll just get 50 euros!

That's it! I'll send my 3DS to a technician (the one who fixed my PS3 and now it works PERFECTLY!) and I'll let him do 3 things:
-Fix the R button permanently
-Fix the charging LED which is most of the time active, even if it's not charging
-Install CFW (if possible)

Now the BIG problem is...
How much will THAT be... So let's see what we have here
R button replacement: 5 euros (as seen on the ebay link at the 2nd post) +4 euros because he will do all the work= 9 euros (sorry I can't type the euro symbol)
Charging LED: I honestly have no idea
CFW:NTRboot flashcart: around 15 euros or something...

Total: About 27 euros... or even more...

I have a stupid question: I have an R4i SDHC 1.4 (from r4i-sdhc.com) will it work for NTRboot?

Contact cleaner on/into the microswitch has revived the action on more than a few GBA, DS, and 3DS's for me over the years. Make sure you don't get contact cleaner that has oil in it. I used to buy it as Radio Shack, but since they went under I've been finding it at WalMart in the same area as WD40 and etc.

Example (there are other brands, just make sure you're getting electronics cleaner without lubricating oil)

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
