Is there much difference in the coding between the two? If so which is the more complex/harder?

I've completed a full course on java and want to code for the DS sometime in the near future so just wondering how much work would be involved learning how from already knowing one programming language...

It's not much different, syntax wise compared to something like BASIC which is quite different, but I wouldn't say they are similar either. Java is heavily OOP based. But if you've been coding for a while, it is much easier to learn another language, if you're familiar with one language already, so I don't think you will have too much of a hard time if you were to learn C/C++.
btw, I don't know if thats a good question to ask in this forum -.-
