I've recently gotten back into listening to music... dunno why I stopped really, but anyway that's not what this is about. So I've downloaded a whole bunch of music, but none of them have the cover art embedded. I tried manually adding them and it works, but it's a pain in the ass. I found out that if I get an iTunes store account, it apparently does it on it's own? (Getting the artwork) Is it free? How does it work? Do they have any sort of fees for just having an account for downloading covers?

It's free a certain way...

Go to the itunes store through iTunes. find some free ipod app to download, it'll say signup, under the price it'll say free... finish up and select holw library and right click > Download Cover Art

thats what I always hated about itunes
the zune software automatically finds cover art even if no album is specified on the song

Can one of you explain to me how to do it with Winamp or the Zune software? Once it does it, will the album art be "embedded" to the song so once I open it up on iTunes the album art will show up?
