hope this is the right sub-forum

Hello everyone, I recently had to format my memory card as it was having some issues. I did a complete format with GCMM and that went smoothly, although I was kinda sad all my data is gone. However, I quickly realized that I could just download some save files off sites such as Gamefaqs. I attempted to download a save for Melee and used GCMM to apply it to the memory card, but the file was simply corrupted.

So my question basically is, how do I get this to work? Is it a problem with the save itself? Is there some sort of conversion process I have to do first, etc?

Thanks for the help.

The save is in gci format?
GCMM should be able to copy/restore that file to your card.

You can try to format the card with a game instead of using GCMM (launch a game, and it will tell you the card need to be formated if it's not in the expected format).
Which version of GCMM are you using? (I guess the latest version, 1.4c?)

You can try another method:
- make a raw dump of your card.
- open this raw dump in Dolphin's emulator Card manager.
- transfer the gci save to your raw dump
- restore the full raw dump with your new save on it to your memory card.

It is in .gci format, but the file does not work. I tried restored to it to the card (twice, one try with a save already existing and one with a completely empty card). If I did the former, GCMM would not restore it to the card (can't recall the exact error). If I did the latter, it would write it to the card but SSBM would say the file is corrupted and the card needs to be formatted.

Same thing as above, formatting the card and writing again does nothing. And yes, I believe it's version 1.4c.

I got stuck during one of the steps. I made the raw dump and opened it in Dolphin, but it wouldn't allow me to import the .gci save to the card. Is there something I missed?

Here's the save in question by the way, it's from Gamefaqs.
