ROM Hack [Question] Editing .pack files?

I'm doing the same. I can get into the 2D sprites and the music but not much else as they are .pack files. Also, for a japanese game why are the files all in English.
That's from DQXI right? The files seem to be very similar to the SARC format.
Someone with a bit more knowledge than me may be able to modify a script for SARC to extract/repack these files.
